Game of Thrones star, Sophie Turner, shares a throwback set photo to the show’s “happy days.” Other than her breakthrough performance as Sansa Stark on HBO’s hit fantasy series, which was her first on-screen role, Turner starred as Jean Gray in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse and 2019’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Turner was completely unknown when she joined the cast of Game of Thrones in 2011, along with fellow Stark actors Kit Harrington (Jon Snow), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), and Richard Madden (Robb Stark).
Sansa was one of Game of Thrones’ few original characters who survived the events of the show. Over the course of 8 seasons, Sansa had one of the most empowering albeit traumatic arcs of any character. After witnessing the death of father Ned Stark (Sean Bean) firsthand, she later endured the death of her brother and mother, Robb and Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley). Sansa later suffered years of abuse at the hands of King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). However, Sansa’s storyline saw a triumphant conclusion as she was crowned the Queen of the North during the series finale.
Now, Turner is sharing a throwback BTS photo to the “happy days” of Game of Thrones. Turner’s Instagram story (captured by Comicbook), shows the Game of Thrones cast having a laugh. Other than Sansa, the set photo includes Dolorous Edd (Ben Crompton), Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Melisandre (Carice van Houten), Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju), and Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). HBO’s hit fantasy series has been off the air for a few years now, but its star-studded cast is continuing to thrive. Madden and Harrington will both be staring in the upcoming MCU film, Eternals. Other actors in this photo include Christie, who is also well-known for her Star Wars character Captain Phasma, and Hivju who will be staring in The Witcher and Elizabeth Banks’ Cocaine Bear.
Game of Thrones aired its finale back in May of 2019 and much of the cast still looks back on the series with fondness, including Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa, who also recently took a trip down memory lane with a mini Game of Thrones reunion. Turner’s “happy days” caption may refer to the fact this photo was taken before season 8 aired, which sharply divided the fanbase, resulting in disgruntled fans calling for the final season to be remade. So, Turner’s photo is a welcome reminder of Game of Thrones’ happy days, before the finale caused bitter contention within the fanbase.
