The film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse brought Miles Morales to the big screen. Now, a new variant cover is showcasing Miles’10th anniversary spider suit in a way that harkens back to the animated feature. This Spider-Man knows how to fall with style.

Back in June, Marvel unveiled a new suit to celebrate the character’s 10th anniversary. It is officially debuting this month in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30, though it already made a brief appearance in #29. Reactions to the suit have been mixed, though the look is definitely unique, being inspired by techwear according to artist Chase Conley – the new Spider-Man suit’s designer. This suit has been the subject of multiple new covers, but one revealed cover is certainly one of the best.

On Twitter, artist Mateus Manhanini shared his variant cover for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #33. This issue will be releasing in December. The cover continues featuring Miles in his new suit, but it provides a vibe that fans of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will certainly be reminded of. Miles is swinging through the city, though in this frame he is captured in a moment of free fall. In the background, the city is around him. This is highly reminiscent of Miles’ leap of faith sequence when he finally becomes his version of Spider-Man complete with his own suit as Blackway and Black Caviar’s “What’s Up Danger” is heard.

Miles has quickly become a fan-favorite hero and this is definitely one of the best showcases of his suit. It is vibrant, playful, and it matches the young hero’s aesthetic. Also noticeable are the matching spider symbols on his attire and on the background billboard. The level of detail captured on this cover is stunning. Miles is undergoing some major changes as he celebrates his big milestone this year, so it’s rather fitting that this Spider-Man is the star of so many excellent covers this year. Manhanini has certainly captured the aesthetic of one of the most iconic scenes in Miles’ cinematic debut in comic form. This is a fun homage that also puts a new spin since it is a less distanced composition by comparison. However, it doesn’t lose any of the scope of the city or the vibe of Miles taking a new step in his development as Spider-Man.

The original suit that Miles Morales wore has already become iconic and synonymous with the character. It isn’t surprising that fans are hesitant about him having a new one. This Spider-Man suit has a style to it that is so different from the kinds of suits that they’re used to seeing. Most have been skintight, falling within the traditional superhero spandex model. This suit is the complete opposite of that. It is baggier, more billowy, and different from the costume worn by any other Marvel hero. It raises questions of practicality in a fight with the classic debate of form versus function. Thanks to the success of Miles’ previous look, this suit has a lot to prove to win fans over, but with stunning art featured on covers like this, it may just succeed in time. This could especially be true if they’re connected to beloved moments from Miles Morales’ career, including Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Fans can continue critiquing Miles Morales’ fashion choices – and appreciating the gorgeous art from comic artists – when Miles Morales: Spider-Man #33 releases December 1, 2021.
