A new promo for previous Spider-Man films teases that Spider-Man: No Way Home will have Peter Parker’s biggest journey yet. Director Jon Watts and Tom Holland are reuniting for the third time for the upcoming Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment collaboration. Not much is official regarding plot specifics as marketing for the movie still hasn’t kicked off yet. But in the meantime, fans might want to revisit past films in the web-slinging hero’s franchise as proposed by a new promo clip.
Instead of debuting in his own solo film, Marvel Studios opted to introduce their version of Spider-Man in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: Civil War. A year later, he starred in his standalone adventure in Spider-Man: Homecoming. After that, he joined the bigger MCU in the fight against Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The Infinity Saga was then properly capped off with Spider-Man: Far From Home which functioned as an epilogue to the main story. Now, the young hero is set to embark on a new mission. It’s still uncertain who the main villain is in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but Sony is already hyping it up about five months before it hits theaters at the end of the year.
Posted on Sony Pictures Entertainment’s official YouTube channel is a new promo spot, enticing the public to revisit Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home before its follow-up drops. Towards the end of the clip, however, it claims that “Spider-Man’s biggest journey is yet to come,” referring to Peter’s upcoming story in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Watch the full video below:
Spider-Man: No Way Home finished filming earlier this year, but aside from its official title and a couple of stills, there are no other marketing materials released for the film. Hence why everyone is on the edge waiting for the first trailer for the movie, which should offer new clues as to what to expect from the threequel. It’s interesting, however, that Sony is using the upcoming film to market its predecessors when rumors claim that it won’t have a strong narrative link to them. At this point, Spider-Man: No Way Home is said to be a live-action version of the SpiderVerse narrative.
Considering what went down at the end of the Loki show, this is now more feasible than ever. The death of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) led to the creation of the MCU’s multiverse, wherein branches of timelines are overlapping each other. This could explain how previous iterations of the web-slinging-hero could interact with Holland’s version, not to mention the rumored involvement of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock from the Marvel/Netflix franchise. In any case, reshoots are supposedly taking place for Spider-Man: No Way Home; perhaps after that, a new trailer can finally drop.
