As the coronavirus continues its terrifying spread across the globe, it seems as if every aspect of life is reacting to the panic. Popular Japanese video game developer and publisher Square Enix is just another one of the recent companies reacting to the disease, with a recent announcement that the upcoming NieR: Theatrical Orchestra concert, set to go up on March 28 and 29 in Tokyo, Japan, has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
The news broke via Twitter on Square Enix Music’s official account. Twitter user Miraculous Maku (@RedMakuzawa) shared a translation of the Tweet in English, explaining that the upcoming concerts have been canceled. As of now, there appear to be no plans to cancel the NieR: Theatrical Orchestra concerts in Osaka, Japan that are set to go up in late April.
The original Square Enix tweet contains a listing of all the upcoming concert dates, with only the March concerts currently canceled.
Though the Osaka NieR Orchestra concert has not been officially canceled, Square Enix is preemptively warning fans about the possibility of a cancellation if the virus continues to spread with a message on their official website: “The Osaka performance scheduled to be held on April 25 (Saturday) is scheduled to be held at this stage, but we will carefully consider the future situation and announce it again on the official website.”
But fans who are in desperate need of a NieR music fix won’t need to search too crazily to find their beloved songs. For those who bummed about the cancellations and are looking for a chance to enjoy NieR music, you can now stream all the tracks online. As of January 2020, the entire NieR: Automata soundtrack is available on all major streaming platforms, such as Spotify. Fans of the music can also enjoy playlists of specially arranged and unreleased tracks, as well as piano covers of all the songs.
Sure, it is a little disappointing to not be able to listen to your favorite epic songs live and in concert. But even though fans may be upset by the cancelations, it beats potentially contracting the coronavirus or any other scary illness.
