Square Enix Confirms “Several” New Titles Will Be Revealed In July & August

With E3 being sorely missed this summer, many gaming companies are announcing new games independently and Japan’s own Square Enix is no exception. The company recently divulged that despite many setbacks due to the ongoing pandemic, it still has “several” announcements to make over the coming months.

During a stockholders meeting last week, Square Enix revealed that due to uncompleted assets, the company was unable to hold its own press conference to unveil new games. The SE representative continued by acknowledging a plan to announce new titles separately between July and August. There were no further reports of any upcoming games being mentioned during this meeting.

Microsoft, Sony, EA and CD Projekt Red have already had the spotlight’s attention with its press conferences in lieu of E3 2020’s cancellation. Ubisoft is the last wave in the digital press conference rally, due to go live July 12th, with Bethesda’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, Pete Hines, disclosing that it would not be partaking in an independent E3 related event.

Square Enix already have a healthy list of announced games on the way including, Outriders, Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory and Marvel’s Avengers. Its latest edition to the PS5 line-up, Project Athia, boasted a picturesque fantasy following a girl with powers developed by Square Enix’s studio Luminous Productions. Marvel’s Avengers, from Crystal Dynamics, is attracting a majority of the company’s future release hype, with only a couple of months to go until its scheduled September slot.

Rumors have already began circling around the prospect of one of these new releases being Final Fantasy XVI. Fans are already getting a remastered version of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, due to release in August, but players of the recent Final Fantasy VII Remake are eager for more. There is also a possibility that Square Enix will reveal a teaser for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, or at least some news detailing its progress.

With already many titles to look forward to, the potential reveal of a new Final Fantasy game is exciting, leaving minimal time to recover from Sephiroth’s return. No matter what reveals await us in the next coming months, Square Enix is still riding on the global success of FFVII Remake and showing no signs of slowing down.
