Developer GSC Game World unveiled a brand-new look at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase; in so doing, the team confirmed the sequel’s 2022 launch date. Though the survival title originally made waves at E3 2018, it didn’t resurface with concrete details until 2020.

The long-awaited project reentered the spotlight with Xbox by its side. As such, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s eventual arrival will see it touch down as an Xbox console exclusive. GSC Game World confirmed as much in a recent interview, noting that a PlayStation 5 version of the title is not on the cards. Interestingly, however, information shared in the Apple and Epic Games trial suggests the exclusivity deal will only last for a three-month period. Neither Microsoft nor GSC Game World has officially corroborated this particular detail, though.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 took center stage early during Xbox’s and Bethesda’s joint E3 2021 presentation. GSC Game World used its brief segment to share a five-minute gameplay trailer, filled with cinematics, creepy creatures, cursory story details, and more. Most importantly, the new look at the eagerly-anticipated sequel ended with a release date reveal. Fans should be pleased to learn that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will come to the PC and Xbox Series X|S platforms next spring on April 28, 2022. Better yet, the upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R. entry is on track to release day-and-date on Xbox Game Pass. Check out the trailer in the video below:

For a game that has spent the last several years shrouded in mystery, it’s good to know that development seems to be coming along nicely. And with the release date finally out in the wild, the production crew may begin to share more details in months ahead. Plus, who knows what other pieces of information may emerge as E3 2021 continues?

The franchise’s original installment, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, launched in 2007 as an open-world first-person shooter based on the 1979 sci-fi film Stalker. Suffice it to say, the game’s cult following has been eager to get its hands on a new entry for many years. It seems as though GSC Game World plans to deliver an all-new experience that both adheres to the brilliance of the original and go to great lengths to evolve the formula further. Fortunately, the wait to see how the team’s ambitions pan out will come to an end in less than a year’s time.
