According to a new rumor, Star Wars Eclipse was inspired by Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. It’s not exactly clear in what way, seeing as Star Wars Eclipse probably won’t be about a journey across a post-apocalyptic United States amid a fungal outbreak. That said, the Star Wars Eclipse trailer appeared to suggest a darker-than-usual tone for the Star Wars franchise – but details surrounding the game’s content have yet to point toward its maturity level.

Whether Disney is open to an M-rated Star Wars game is unknown, but Quantic Dream may try to push its game to the edge without veering away from a T-rated title. Disney appears to have already placed a lot of trust into Quantic Dream as Star Wars Eclipse is in the High Republic, an era that hasn’t seen exploration in any Star Wars video games. Although Star Wars fanatics will likely be well-versed in this part of the lore, Quantic Dream has the freedom to add or shape elements in the High Republic universe.

Twitter user AccNGT – who has leaked information regarding Star Wars Eclipse for quite some time now – recently revealed the game was inspired by The Last of Us. Although there is no further elaboration on this claim, AccNGT also noted Quantic Dream is striving to deliver a strong narrative with memorable action scenes. Naughty Dog has struck this balance fairly well across all of its games, but the studio is known for its successful narrative and action scenes featured in its The Last of Us series.

One of the inspirations: The Last Of Us

Some time will likely pass before fans really get to see what this Last-of-Us-related claim means, though. Star Wars Eclipse is still years away, according to reputable insiders; so, Quantic Dream will likely recede back into the shadows for the foreseeable future while it continues to work on the new game. Given Disney announced it would allow other developers to work on Star Wars at the start of 2021, the game is likely still very early on in development. But hopefully, there will be more updates in the coming months.

The game looks to be quite ambitious and will likely fulfill a lot of wishes for a modern Star Wars game if executed successfully. Many have noted that most of EA’s recent titles have failed to capture the full breadth of the Star Wars universe. Some new Star Wars Eclipse screenshots suggest the game will span across multiple planets and offer a rich, deep dive into the universe George Lucas created in 1977.
