Star Wars Eclipse Shows What The Acolyte Could Look Like

The first trailer for Star Wars Eclipse, a new Star Wars game currently being developed by Quantic Dream, has revealed the game’s High Republic setting, and it could end up connecting to The Acolyte Disney+ series. The cinematic footage itself is beautiful, striking, and mysterious, and seemingly depicts the closing stages of the High Republic, as it includes ships from the prequels. An upcoming Star Wars series from Disney+, The Acolyte, is also set to take place towards the end of the High Republic, meaning that there could be some connections between it and Star Wars Eclipse.

In regards to the Star Wars timeline, Eclipse is set in an exciting period, and one that has so far only been depicted in novels and comics. The High Republic era refers to a period of time that commenced 200 years before the Skywalker saga, where the Republic and Jedi Order experienced a golden age of peace and prosperity. The Acolyte will reportedly also take place during the High Republic, though it is difficult to say whether there will be narrative or cosmetic overlap. The High Republic era lasted for 218 years, but The Acolyte is said to take place toward the end of it, which could also be the case for Star Wars Eclipse.

The cinematic trailer reveals many in-depth details about the High Republic, including images of unknown alien races and surprisingly familiar faces, with the Trade Federation potentially playing into Star Wars Eclipse’s story too. A mysterious, tattooed humanoid opens the trailer with heavy drumming. An army from an unknown military power marches forward ominously. An unfamiliar female character, sporting fine jewelry and carrying an air of royalty, stands before burning ruins. A lasting final image reveals a menacing figure drawing itself from thick, black liquid, before showing us the titular eclipse mentioned in the title. The Acolyte could feature some of these new alien forces, as it will similarly deal with the rise of dark forces in the galaxy.

Star Wars Eclipse Could Connect To The Acolyte

Star Wars Eclipse provides fans with their first look at the High Republic in motion before The Acolyte’s eventual premiere. A stripped-down C3PO is featured in the trailer (or a distant relative, given the game’s place in time). Yoda also makes an appearance along with other lightsaber-wielding Jedi in Eclipse, overlooking the vast, growing city of Coruscant. The Nemoidian race will be included, continuing to echo characters featured in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Some or all of these characters could potentially be included in The Acolyte, but even if not, Quantic Dream’s new game could still provide a valuable first look at what the series may look like. The High Republic books and comics have so far only depicted the peak of the era, with its eventual decline yet to be explored.

Though the idea of another AAA Star Wars narrative game set in a never-before-scene era is tantalizing, fans may have a long wait ahead of them. Rumors from industry insider Tom Henderson say that Star Wars Eclipse’s release date could be three-four years away, and news about The Acolyte’s release is equally sparse. With no release dates for either Star Wars Eclipse or The Acolyte, fans will have to bide their time in other galaxies far, far away, with multiple Star Wars games set to release in the meantime.
