Keepers of peace, practitioners of serenity, and a cornerstone of one of the world’s greatest pop culture phenomena Star Wars, the Jedi are a fascinating section of Force users. The Jedi have a long and interesting history and in the Star Wars films the time fans are subject to most is the Clone Wars era with the Jedi Order, and later, in the original trilogy, Luke Skywalker.

The Jedi have many a quality that makes them who they are and make them such a powerful order. Their self-restraint and dedication to the code, their wisdom, their use of lightsaber for defense (never attack). The Jedi seen throughout the Star Wars universe are often the most intelligent beings in the Galaxy so, here are all the main Jedi (these just being the main light-side force users seen in the films and TV shows) ranked by intelligence.

10 REY

Someone has to fall the bottom of a list like this, unfortunately. While she is by no means unintelligent and is beyond her years regarding it, Rey finds herself bottom here.

Rey’s inexperience, as well as lack of training, compared to other Jedi on the list, lack of skill regarding tactics and strategy compared to others, all, hold her back. While she is immensely powerful and trains hard, as well as having good independent intelligence allowing her to survive on Jakuu, it does not correlate to the intelligence of others and, while she is smart, leaves her bottom of this.

9 EZRA BRIDGER

Just edging out the sequel trilogy hero – although the two are arguably interchangeable – is everyone’s favorite Padwan from Rebels, Ezra Bridger. Ezra only falls this low due to the intelligence of everybody else.

Ezra is a free thinker and picks up the Force well. He is cunning and skilled, but ultimately what lets him down on this list is his experience. Ezra’s exploits after the series finale of Rebels are unknown, and so could give a reason for him to be much higher on the list. Ezra is both militarily proficient and a quick learner whose journey through Rebels develops him into a character beyond his years.

8 KANAN JARRUS

One step above Ezra is his master Kanan Jarrus, formerly Caleb Dume. Kanan is an Order 66 survivor and a part of the Rebellion cell of the Ghost crew. After finding Ezra on Lothal, he brings him into the crew and trains him in the ways of the Force.

Kanan being trained in the way of the Jedi, and later using his knowledge to deepen his connection with the force is indicative of his intelligence. As well as this he leads the Ghost crew as well as Ezra on his own on an array of missions with a sound strategy. On top of all this Kanan hides his identity, escaped the grasp of the Empire and Inquisitors for a long time before revealing his true identity.

7 ANAKIN SKYWALKER

Anakin arguably should be higher on the list. But his heart over head approach, and his higher intelligence as Darth Vader as well as not being as wise as the future entries on the list place him here, despite his fantastic intelligence.

Anakin made Threepio, as well as his winning pod as a child. He also starts Jedi training from an older age than most and picks it up to become one of the most powerful Jedi there is. Anakin is also a great general during the Clone Wars for his 501st legion, and it must be to his benefit that Vader is a calculating and intelligent Sith lord.

6 AHSOKA TANO

Despite being below her master, Ahsoka earns her place. From Padwan who was initially rejected by the fandom, to one of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars, Ahsoka has had quite the journey.

Ahsoka has the independent thinking realizes going back to the order is no good to her in The Clone Wars and that it is not what she wants. From there Ahsoka’s journey is a bit murky but she manages to survive the Jedi Purge, all the way to the end of Galactic Civil War and Rebels, signifying survivability and intellect beyond that of a lot of Jedi. In the few times we do see her past The Clone Wars she is more powerful and knows her role within the Force much better.

5 MACE WINDU

Second in command of the Jedi High Council, and one of the most powerful Jedi on the said council, is purple lightsaber-wielding Mace Windu. Intuitive, wise, intelligent, Mace Windu was a… force to be reckoned with during his time in the Clone Wars era.

Not only was Mace a wise Jedi, following in the footsteps of Yoda in that sense, he also was a commanding general with a great tactical sense and ability. Mace was also the first to sniff out something is wrong with the Chancellor. On top of that, he created and mastered – the only one to do so – his own lightsaber form, Vaapad, showing his knowledge of both sides of the Force and his skill with the blade.

4 OBI-WAN KENOBI

Graceful, full of wisdom, one of the most revered and powerful Jedi of his time and beyond, Obi-Wan Kenobi has all the qualities of a fantastic Jedi. One of these qualities is undoubtedly intelligence which he shows throughout his appearances in the Galaxy far, far away.

Not only does Obi-Wan impart a tonne of wisdom on both Anakin and Luke, but he also absorbed everything his master taught him. Obi-Wan was another fantastic general who knew how to balance his moral code with the realities of war. Perhaps the biggest indication of his intelligence is the fact he was the first Jedi to put into practice the full mode of training to become a full force spirit.

3 QUI-GON JINN

The first practitioner of this ability though was not Obi-Wan, but rather his master Qui-Gon Jinn. One of the better new characters to come out of the Prequels was Qui-Gon and more stuff is needed about him in the Star Wars canon.

Qui-Gon, like all Jedi masters and even more so than most, was extremely wise, imparting that wisdom on Anakin and Obi-Wan. Unlike most Jedi masters though Qui-Gon elected to not be on the council. Qui-Gon was a free thinker and disagreed with many of the Jedi opinions on things, showing great intelligence and still being respected by his peers. Jinn was empathetic, focused on the moments, and trained his instincts, making him both a powerful and smart master.

2 LUKE SKYWALKER

One of the main figures of which the whole saga relies upon, there perhaps is no Star Wars if there is no Luke Skywalker. Luke’s journey from farm boy to Jedi master is phenomenal and the Tatooine born hero’s intelligence is clear throughout the franchise.

Luke not only learns the way of the Force and the Jedi from the best possible sources, but he also has to embark on his journey, studying Jedi texts, legends, and lore like we see in The Last Jedi. Luke’s wisdom in the Force allows him to not only train Rey but previous to this train a whole new wave of Force users, while these fell to Kylo Ren, it is immensely impressive.

1 YODA

The typical answer, but the correct answer. While some will argue Luke’s intelligence is greater than Yoda’s despite Yoda’s greater wisdom, nobody edges out the mind of the little green… whatever he is.

He is over 900 years old with 800 years of experience as a Force user, learning things, experiencing things, harnessing information and power. Yoda is prone to going on journeys to deepen his connection to the Force as we see in The Clone Wars and it leads to him being a Force spirit who can also harness Force powers such as manipulating the weather as we see in The Last Jedi. Ultimately some will argue Yoda is wisdom over intelligence, but while he is outdone by Palpatine, Yoda is immensely experienced and smart which he proves time and time again.
