Obi-Wan Kenobi star O’Shea Jackson Jr. reveals Star Wars fan theories make him want to share the true secrets for the series. Development on the spin-off project initially began as a film with Hossein Amini and Stephen Daldry penning the script and Ewan McGregor attached to reprise the titular role from the Star Wars prequel movies. The title was put on hold following the commercial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story alongside a solo Boba Fett movie, though the success of Disney+’s The Mandalorian would see Disney and Lucasfilm find renewed interest in the project as a series.

Amini had begun reworking his original Obi-Wan Kenobi script for television though would be replaced prior to production with Army of the Dead’s Joby Harold due to Lucasfilm being underwhelmed by the former’s scripts. Though exact plot details are currently unknown for the series, it will be set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith as the titular hero continues watching over a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine and takes the character on what’s described as a “rollicking adventure.” Alongside McGregor, the series will see the returns of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars and welcome franchise newcomers Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie and Maya Erskine.

While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant for the Roku comedy series The Now, O’Shea Jackson Jr. opened about about the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. When asked about keeping the franchise’s secrets to himself, the star described it as “so hard” and teased that seeing Star Wars fan theories online makes him want to share the show’s secrets. See what Jackson Jr. said below:

“It’s so hard, it’s so hard because like anything that I’ll read or see on the internet, I just want to just be like, ‘You don’t even know, you don’t even know what’s gonna go down!’ All these guesses and people going down the wrong rabbit hole, it’s funny to watch. But as soon as I get the green light, I might do a two-hour special talking about everything.”

Though the Star Wars prequels have largely divided critics and audiences over the years, the biggest element to have received consisted praise across all three films was Ewan McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The announcement of his return for a solo Obi-Wan Kenobi project has left many fans excited for his return as well as raised a number of questions for what the story could hold with Christensen returning as Darth Vader. Jackson Jr.’s note of many Star Wars fans going down the wrong rabbit holes with their theories for the series may not give many specifics, but it does prove an interesting tease of the unexpected storytelling coming from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Anticipation for the next chapters of Disney+’s Star Wars universe continues to build with The Book of Boba Fett coming later this month and both Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi set to premiere on the streaming platform next year. Though Disney+ Day may not have brought a proper trailer for the latter series, the concept art revealed offered plenty of promising teases for an aged Kenobi and battle between the Jedi Master and his former Padawan-turned-Sith-Lord Darth Vader. The Star Wars franchise returns with The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+ on December 29.
