That’s right, Star Wars: Squadrons is getting full flight stick support for consoles on its day one patch.

The flight simulator is setting up to be one of Star Wars’ biggest titles in quite a while. When the game was teased back in June, we didn’t know what to expect from this installment. However, as the weeks and months passed, we’ve only been more and more impressed with the concept. The list of supported features for this game is hard to beat. Not only can you play cross-platform with your friends, but VR is also supported, and now, you can kick your immersion into overdrive with a functioning flight stick.

As we got more and more information about the depth of Squadrons, the idea of being a pilot excited a lot of you. Couple that with Microsoft Flight Simulator’s surprising popularity, and it seems a foregone conclusion that you would be getting a flight stick to play the game. However, it appears that this kind of support wasn’t originally intended for the console version of the game.

Luckily, the dev team was willing to put in who knows how many hours to make it happen. So, if you bought yourself a Thrustmaster or Hori set up in anticipation of the game, you’re good to go. The second the game is ready to play, your couch (or gaming chair) will become your cockpit, complete with a flight stick—assuming you bought one.

Honestly, this is probably going to be the best way to experience Squadrons. Nothing is going to beat the feeling of using flight controls built specifically to emulate actual flight. With the number of things that you’re going to need to keep an eye on, it’s also probably going to be the most intuitive way to play the game. EA’s got your back on the price as well. The game is only going to cost $40, so buying the additional equipment isn’t going to set you back much more than a regular priced game. If you have the means to do it, we would highly recommend you take advantage of this new capability.
