Some players aren’t content with recouping their investments and making enough money to survive. Many Stardew Valley players want to plant the most cost-effective plants possible and gain lots of cash. This guide shows players the best crops to plant in every season and make the most money.

Stardew Valley – Best Crops to Plant in Spring

Spring is the very first season that players will experience in Stardew Valley and they will begin the game with very limited funds and a wide selection of different seeds to choose from. The trick to doing well in Stardew Valley is picking the best possible crops in that very first season to ensure that the player can build up enough income from farming to purchase more expensive seeds in later seasons. Here are the best crops to plant:

Cauliflower – This crop can be a little pricey and takes twelve days to grow, but they have one of the highest profit margins out of the spring crops. Cauliflower seeds are able to purchased from Pierre for 80 apiece but can be resold for a little more than double that amount. Players can also plant and harvest a second round as well before the season’s change.

Strawberry – Strawberries are by far the most profitable plant available to the player in Spring, but it probably won’t be very useful until the player’s second year. This is because it can’t be purchased until about halfway through Spring, but when able players should buy as many seeds as they can and stash them away. Seeds cost 100 gold and fruit only sells for about 120, but players will reap in a huge amount of fruit if planted early in spring. This is because the plant takes eight days to grow but then puts off new strawberries every four days. This allows players to recoup their costs from the first harvest but make a profit on each additional one.

Summer gives players access to a wider variety of crops, and the game opens up a little more so players need to be careful not to waste their time on crops that aren’t worth their money. Summer may not have the opportunity to be as valuable as Fall, but players will need to set themselves up properly with a nice bit of extra money if they want to rake in the dough the following season. Here are the best crops to do that within Summer:

Corn – Corn is interesting in that it is one of the few crops that grow in both Summer and Fall. This is exactly how players can maximize their profits for the crop as well because they can plant it at the very beginning of summer and it will continue to grow throughout the Fall. Each corn seed will cost the player 150 gold and can be sold for 50 gold apiece. Planting at the beginning of summer means that players can get up to 11 harvests from each seed.

Hops – Hops are the kind of crop that isn’t a major profit immediately for the player, as they take 11 days to grow, cost 60 gold, only sell for 25, and only regrow a few times before the season is over. The upside to them though is that if players stock up on as many hops as they are able to and they can then turn them into pale ale. This means that players make a huge profit off of this crop.

Blueberries – Blueberries are the absolute best Summer crop available for the player. The seed can be purchased for 80 gold and then resold for 50 gold a blueberry. The exciting part though is that each seed produces three blueberries a harvest and can be harvested up to four times a season. Altogether players can make a profit of 520 gold per plant as a season.

Stardew Valley: Best Crops to Plant in Fall

Out of all of the season in Stardew Valley, Fall is by far the most profitable because it has the widest array of plants and most of them are multi harvest. Those who were smart enough to plant corn during the summer will still be raking in profits from that so they should also have enough steady income to justify buying up many profitable Fall seeds. Here are the best things to plant:

Pumpkins – Pumpkins don’t seem like much at first especially because they are expensive, take 13 days to grow, and aren’t multi harvest. The upside to them though is that they have one of the highest sell rates of any crop in the game at 320 gold. Also, have the potential to become giant crops that give out more pumpkins than originally planted.

Yam – This is another crop that isn’t multi-harvest but it makes up for it by being cheap and selling for more than double its purchase price. They take ten days to harvest, so smart players are able to make a pretty penny by at least doubling the amount of money they put into this crop.

Cranberries – These are by far the best thing to grow during Fall because they are a very effective multi-harvest crop. Cranberries are very expensive to buy at 240 gold a seed, and they may seem worthless considering each fruit sells for 75. Each plant only produces two per harvest as well, so each plant is only worth 150 per harvest. If players plant early in fall though they can maximize their profits by being able to harvest five times during the season. Altogether that means that players can make about 510 gold per plant every season.

Stardew Valley: What to Do During Winter

The scariest thing about playing Stardew Valley for the first time is that once Winter arrives players will realize that they can’t plant anything all season. This means no money whatsoever will be coming in from crops, and players will need to find other ways to make money. There are still ways to make money agricultural items though.

Build the Greenhouse – If players are able to complete the Pantry Community Center Bundle, they are able to build the Greenhouse on their property. This is a really good idea because it gives players the space to grow plants during the Winter. There isn’t a lot of space in the greenhouse, but this is a good way to stay afloat when it’s too cold to grow anything outside.

Capitalize on Ancient Fruit and Hops – If players were smart they saved all of the Hops and Ancient Fruit that they grew during the year rather than selling it off immediately. This is because these crops can be put in kegs and turned into both Ancient Wine and Pale Ale for massive amounts of cash.
