The last major update to hit Stardew Valley came in November 2019, which added new content like fish ponds, end game marriage events, and a new starting map perfect for four-player multiplayer games. And the next update will continue Stardew’s foray into multiplayer by letting people play together side-by-side on the couch.

Yes, Stardew is getting split-screen co-op multiplayer. Stardew creator ConcernedApe (aka Eric Barone) tweeted out the news on Friday, along with a follow-up tweet that revealed not everyone will enjoy a quartered screen. PC and certain consoles will be able to get four-player split-screen, while other consoles (most likely the Switch) will be limited to two screens.

ConcernedApe also dropped an image that eagle-eyed Stardew fans were able to analyze for even more new features. It looks like a pair of new chests are coming in update 1.5, along with a telephone stand, two new artisan equipment, a solar essence statue, and a new enemy which is basically a slime with shades. People are already calling it the “cool slime.”

Back in July, ConcernedApe revealed an image of Willy’s Shop that now had a back door, promising a “significant piece of end-game content” would be coming in 1.5. Along with that, this picturesque image from last month shows what appears to be a mangrove tree, or at least some other form of water-based tree.

As usual, we still don’t have a release date for update 1.5, but if we were to bet, it’ll come at roughly the same time as 1.4 did last year. That’s the end of November, in case you were wondering.

But what about past update 1.5? What’s the future of Stardew hold? Barone wasn’t “willing to commit to Stardew Valley 1.6,” but did say that he doesn’t think update 1.5 will be the last we hear from him.

“I would not be surprised if there’s another Stardew Valley update, or multiple updates, or a Stardew Valley 2. Who knows?”
