After weeks of delays and teases, Fortnite has finally confirmed when drivable cars will come to the game, and the big day is mere hours away.

The overarching theme of Fortnite Season 3 has been water. The season kicked off with a live event that resulted in the entire island being flooded. With it came ridable Loot Sharks, brand new water-based locations, and the inclusion of Aquaman as this season’s resident superhero. We would have preferred ten more weeks of Deadpool, but in Epic’s defense, Aquaman makes more sense right now.

With water covering much of the island at the start of the season, players would not have been expecting the addition of drivable cars. However, the trailer at the start of the season revealed that new feature would be here imminently. Not as imminently as we first hoped, as Epic revealed a few weeks ago that the addition of cars had been delayed.

Well, that extended wait is almost over. This week, Epic tweeted news of the long-awaited arrival of cars is coming on August 5, 2020. That’s right, tomorrow! Providing you are reading this on the day it was published, of course. It made the announcement by revealing a brand new type of car at the same time, the Whiplash.

The update has been aptly named the Joy Ride Update and will include a lot more than just the red and blue vehicle pictured above. As has been discovered by data miners, other drivable cars will include sedans, pickup trucks, sports cars, and semi-trucks. The amount of damage those vehicles will be able to take before they give up the ghost has also already been leaked by data miners.

Vehicles took a long time to arrive in Fortnite. Fast forward to today and we can’t imagine the island without them. Choppas, ATKs, those weird transparent balls that needed harpoons and pullies to move. We love them all! However, making cars drivable might be the biggest addition to Fortnite’s vehicle world since they were first introduced. By August 5, we would hazard to guess that Fortnite will look more like a race track than a battle royale arena, and we are very much here for it.
