Stealing the show amid Nintendo’s Indie World Direct, Thunder Lotus enraptured the audience with only but a brief glimpse into its soothing “cozy management game,” Spiritfarer. Releasing today on almost all platforms, including PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Steam, Epic, and more, Stella’s journey sets sail with a release trailer as captivating and surreal as is the over 30-hour long experience.

Worlds of unbound wonder, nautical adventure, and relaxation of the highest caliber await players in Spiritfarer.

Join Stella and her affable feline sidekick, Daffodil, as they embark upon the journey of the Spiritfarer. Their newfound quest will not only task players with a seemingly peaceful trip across a mystical ocean, but will also challenge them in many ways, such as resource allocation and time management. A staple of this feel-good and heartfelt indie game is emotion, putting these feelings of ours up to the ultimate test, which may well be some of the toughest in-game aspects for many gamers to explore.

In the same vein of Spirit Sprint or even Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Spiritfarer acts as a 2D sidescroller with its own enchanting flair, including gorgeous settings and unforgettable characters. It lends itself to this beauty and captures players in many extraordinary ways, witnessed best in how Stella must fight through these feelings of inexperience and loss. Crafting, cooking, mining, fishing, and so much more make up the breadth of Spiritfarer’s gameplay, blended with a constant need to explore every conceivable inch of its enchanted sea.

While it may at first appear as though the ocean is nothing but a lonely place, Spiritfarer does right by way of a fully-functioning co-op adventure, which is arguably one of the game’s best features.

As Spiritfarer Creative Director, Nicolas Guérin, gleefully relates:

“We took what is by far our biggest, most ambitious production yet, and decided to up the ante by releasing Spiritfarer simultaneously on almost every system under the sun. Our fans have been so patient, waiting for us just to say ‘when’. Well, I’m happy to tell them: the time is now! Spiritfarer is a game that’s near and dear to our hearts, so we hope you’ll set sail with us.”

The team’s ongoing dev diaries YouTube series, which most recently highlighted the best way to bake french fries, proves not only how much is in store for players but just how much soul Thunder Lotus has poured into Spiritfarer. Of course, this love and devotion will only continue well beyond its current release.

For now, though, its but a mere boat ride across a mystical sea as Spiritfarer launches with simultaneous breathless anticipation and extraordinary promise.
