Adam McKay’s 2008 comedy hit Step Brothers has been reimagined with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone in a new deepfake video. The original film, which starred Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, was the second pairing of the popular comedy duo.

Step Brothers tells the story of Brennan (Ferrell) and Dale (Reilly), two co-dependent misfits who are still leeching off their single parents despite being in their 40s. When Brennan and Dale’s respective parents decide to marry, the two become step-brothers and are forced to learn how to adapt to sharing the space and privileges they’d previously taken for granted. Their parents, meanwhile, are desperate to get the two men out into the real world and working for a living. After Brennan and Dale nearly end up killing one another over their petty rivalries, the duo slowly begins to realize that they have more in common than they had originally thought. Working together to resist the very real prospect of being kicked out of their parents’ house, the laughs are steady and plentiful in McKay’s third feature film.

Compared to other films from McKay or Ferrell, Step Brothers wasn’t a massive hit, but it still managed to perform well enough at the box office. Its legacy, however, has grown over the years since its initial release, arguably attracting new fans. And although a remake isn’t in the cards at this point, it is often fun to catch a glimpse of what could have been. In this case, YouTube user Brian Monarch has supplied the world with a deepfake video that casts Schwarzenegger and Stallone as Brennan and Dale. The results have to be seen to be believed. Check out the video below for a glimpse at Step Brothers with the two action stars:

The scenes that Monarch chose for his deepfakery come in the original film just as Brennan and Dale realize they have things in common. Using Schwarzenegger and Stallone in place of Ferrell and Reilly is both creepy and hilarious, which can typically be expected from a deepfake. In fact, it’s arguable that an entire Step Brothers film done with Stallone and Schwarzenegger deepfakes would be entirely watchable. This is highly unlikely to ever happen, of course, but at the very least, this particular video exists.

There’s been a lengthy drought of comedic quality from Ferrell and Reilly in recent years, with the last film that the duo did together, 2018’s Holmes & Watson, having been widely panned. It’s unfortunate that the pair have no current plans to reunite for something on the level of Step Brothers or Talladega Nights, but for those who are looking to relive (and arguably amplify) some of Step Brothers in a new and very strange way, then this Stallone and Schwarzenegger deepfake is just the thing.
