The boss fights of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin are some of the hardest challenges that the series has had to offer in the past few years, and Elemental Core is amongst them. It can be a tough battle to face since it occurs in the first few hours of the game and can feel extremely hectic, thanks to the multiple targets and changing phases.
Luckily, we have some great tips and recommendations for how to take down this elemental menace. With some knowledge and a bit of practice, you’ll be able to take down this monster in no time.
Where Is Elemental Core Located?
Elemental Core is the boss you’ll face at the end of the Natural Distortion story mission, located in the Refrin Wetlands. Once you’ve come to the Cradle of Radiant Reefs, you’ll know that you’re at the end of the level.
You’ll encounter the boss once you’ve made your way through the Final Fantasy 13-esque area, messing with the weather to open up new paths.
Pre-Battle Preparations
As you’ll quickly notice, Elemental Core appears to be made up of a Fire Elemental and a Water Elemental. You’ll be familiar with these monsters and their tactics from earlier in the level, but the Elemental Core is quite a bit stronger, and acts a bit differently.
Recommended Jobs
It’s a good idea to have some elemental damage in this fight, specifically lightning and water. For this reason, Black Mage is perfect – though Mage on its own can hold its own. Red Mage is also an option if you like using swords, but you’ll lose access to water damage. Red Mage does, however, gain access to Shell, which is a perfect spell for reducing damage in this fight.
If you’re not a fan of the Red Mage’s playstyle, it may be worth equipping the White Mage Job just to have access to the Shell spell – it really is that much of a boon since a large portion of the damage you’ll be taking in this fight is magical in nature. White Mage also gives you access to Cure spell and Dia, which is great for ranged combat.
Lancer isn’t a bad pick for this fight, either. Fighting at a range will give you quite the advantage, and Lance Hurl gives you the opportunity to do that without having to manage elements.
Recommended Party Members
At this stage in the game, there’s really not that much difference between your available party members. You can just pick your favorites and give them the best equipment you have.
Boss Battle Phase One: Elemental Core
In the first phase of this battle, you’ll be up against the Elemental Core, which can summon one of two elemental spirits at a time: Lahamu, the water spirit, and Lahmu, the fire spirit. Final Fantasy veterans will recognize them as references to Shiva and Ifrit, respectively.
- Attacking either of these spirits will do damage to the spirit as well as doing damage to the Elemental Core itself. The aim of the first phase of the battle is to get its Break Gauge down to zero so you can use a Soul Burst on it. To do this, you’ll have to deal with the elemental spirits.
- Whenever you reduce either Lahamu or Lahmu’s HP to zero, the Elemental Core will fall to the ground for a short while. This is a great opportunity to heal if you need to or close in for a combo attack. You’ll do a ton of break gauge damage to the Core when attacking it directly.
- After a while, the Elemental Core will be able to summon that elemental spirit again, so don’t get complacent!
- After you’ve reduced Elemental Core’s HP a decent amount, it will start summoning both spirits simultaneously. This can be tricky to deal with, so it’s a good idea to spend a bit of time learning how to read all of their attacks.
- When they are both summoned, they can use Dance of Death, a powerful attack that targets the entire battlefield. Get away when they start using this attack as you’ll be able to dodge better from afar.
- After a while, the Elemental Core will be able to summon that elemental spirit again, so don’t get complacent!

Dealing With Lahamu
Lahamu the water half of Elemental Core is definitely more predisposed to ranged, watery attacks.
- A good tactic here is to keep your distance so you can better see where her attacks are coming from. Watch the ground, as some of her attacks will erupt from underneath you.
- When she gets low on health, close in and try to finish her off quickly. The closer you are to the Core when it falls, the more damage you can do to it in its weakened state.
- Bubble Nova is a slow-moving projectile that explodes after a while – it deals a ton of damage but can be absorbed with Soul Shield. Try to do this, as it will deal a large amount of damage to Lahmu, who is weak to it.
- Lahamu is weak to lightning attacks, as you might guess. Using Thunder spells native to Black Mage or Red Mage is a great idea to reduce her HP severely.
Dealing With Lahmu
Compared with his watery sister, Lahmu is far more melee-oriented. He will make an effort to get up close and personal with you. Luckily, his attacks are quite well-telegraphed, so you should have no trouble guarding and Soul Shielding when you can.
- Lahmu’s Scorching Flames attack can be absorbed with a Soul Shield, and should be used against Lahamu. It’ll inflict Fire Resistance Down so you can nail her with Fire attacks if you have them.
- While Lahamu isn’t weak to Lahmu’s fire, Lahmu is weak to water attacks. Use any water spells you have access to for big damage, as well as the Bubble Nova skill you can absorb from Lahamu.
- Many of Lahmu’s attacks will leave fires on the ground. Do your best to avoid these as they will cause damage when standing in them.
Boss Battle Phase Two: Fused Elemental
Once you have taken out Elemental Core either by reducing its HP to half or emptying its Soul Gauge, using a Soul Break will progress the fight to the second phase: Fused Elemental. As hectic as the first phase was, this phase is moreso
- Fused Elemental attacks almost constantly, with both melee and ranged attacks that can create puddles of damage all over the battlefield.
- One of Fused Elemental’s most threatening attacks is Crack, which will reduce your resistance to both fire and water attacks, so you’ll want to absorb this at every possible turn. Use it against the boss to give it a taste of its own medicine.
- Fuse is a long-range attack that fires three projectiles in a row – if you’re far away, you’ll be able to dodge to one side twice to avoid all three. Otherwise, you’ll need to Soul Shield them or bear the pain.
- Conflict is a large AoE attack, but it has an obvious telegraph. Move away whenever you see that it’s about to use this attack. It will detonate any of the puddles it’s left, so be wary of them, too.
- Once you’ve worn it down yet again, give it a Soul Break and enjoy the victory.
