HBO’s Succession has become one of the most compelling shows on television and it remains gripping as its third season comes to an end. The show is filled with characters who audiences are drawn to and love spending time with despite their obvious flaws.

While the likes Logan, Kendall, and Shiv are created as complex and grounded characters, there are a lot of weirder players in the show that add to the fun wacky energy of this world. These characters do things that confuse and even disgust audiences, but they are also so entertaining in their bizarre ways.

10 Caroline Collingwood

Given the fact that Logan Roy is their father, it is not very surprising that the Roy children ended up the way they did. But when Caroline, the mother of Kendall, Shiv, and Roman, is introduced, it further explains their dysfunctionality.

Caroline is every bit as blunt and insulting as Logan. However, while Logan is cruel and intimidating, it’s hard not to find Caroline funny as she pretends others are in on the joke while insulting them to their face. She refuses to accept any of her own faults and sees everyone else as the problem.

9 Josh Aaronson

Oscar-winning Adrien Brody joined the show in a guest-starring role in season 3 as Josh Aaronson, another example of how Succession is able to keep featuring hilarious new types of self-obsessed rich people.

He is someone who likes to present himself as in touch with nature and outdoorsy while also getting his staff to set up a lavish dinner in the middle of his hike. He also either gets lost on his own property without admitting it or purposely got the Roys lost in order to see how far he could push things.

8 Frank Vernon

Frank’s journey within the Roy family’s inner circle has been quite hilarious and turned him from a wise advisor to a pet kept on a short leash. Frank has a long history with the company but is also one of the people willing to back Kendall’s attempt to kick his father out of the company.

While Logan eventually welcomes Frank back into the inner circle, he seems to just keep him around so he can keep reminding Frank that he isn’t trusted. He went from one of the more decent people on Succession to a man trying desperately to remain afloat which is a lot more entertaining.

7 Stewy Hosseini

Stewy is a private investor who, throughout the course of the series, has been both a shaky ally of the Roy family and a dangerous enemy. His incredible arrogance and his overly vulgar manner of talking fit with all the rest of the characters in the show.

However, Stewy is also one of the few people who is not afraid to go toe-to-toe with any member of the Roy family. Given how terrible they can be, Stewy’s outrageous bluntness is sort of refreshing when it is aimed at the right people.

6 Karl Muller

Karl is another member of the Roy family’s inner circle and a hilariously reserved character. He is someone who is always looking to climb the ladder but is unwilling to ever stick his neck out very far.

He often hangs around in the background looking for ways to get recognition without contributing much. He is so afraid to rock the boat that he even tried to hide the fact that he was having a panic attack while being held in Turkey.

5 Lukas Matsson

Alexander Skarsgard popped up in season 3 as another great Succession guest star playing a character who makes the Roys look not so terrible in comparison. Lukas Matsson is a terrific and hilarious wildcard character whose unpredictability adds a fun energy to the story.

He is a bored tech genius who seems to get a kick out of keeping people on edge. Some of his standout behavior includes asking Roman when Logan is going to die, urinating on Roman’s cell phone, and saying things like “I just want to get myself the best of everything.”

4 Connor Roy

For a while, Connor Roy was one of the forgotten Roy children, both within the show and within the family. However, he has gradually gotten a bigger role and proven himself just as strange and eccentric as his siblings.

His misguided and scary political aspirations provide one of the funniest storylines in the show. At times Connor seems to be more sensible than the others, but he is also wonderfully unaware of himself which is so much fun to watch. His cringe-worthy relationship with Willa will no doubt continue to be fun to watch.

3 Roman Roy

There are a lot of times when Roman Roy is the easiest character to hate in the show. He is a vulgar, disrespectful and immoral person. However, his false belief that he is owed power and his pathetic attempts to be loved by his father makes him a great chaotic character.

His bizarre relationship with Geri both shows a different side of Roman and confirms his awfulness. And his accidental text to his father in season 3 will no doubt go down as one of the most brilliantly awkward moments in the show’s history.

2 Tom Wambsgans

While it is fun to see the various Roy family members jostling for power throughout the show, it is even more entertaining watching those just on the outside desperately trying to hang on. Tom Wambagans is the husband of Shiv and constantly questioning how long he’ll be a part of this team.

Tom’s weirdness best comes out when he is around Greg as he has a childish one-sided friendship with him. From his hilarious preparations for prison to his odd power move of stealing Logan’s food, Tom is a blast to watch and is now set up to be even more interesting in season 4.

1 Cousin Greg

If there is one character who is unfit for the intense corporate world of Succession it is Greg, which makes him the show’s funniest character. He weaseled his way into the inner circle and has seemed lost ever since.

He attempts to maneuver the cutthroat world the others operate in and makes some shady moves, but he is also constantly second-guessing everything, trying to play both sides, and having a generally apologetic nature that makes for so many laugh-out-loud moments. Even accepting Logan’s offer of a rum and coke turns into a hilarious humiliation.
