Nintendo have released a teaser trailer for their upcoming theme park, giving us an idea of what’s in store for 2020.

Nintendo has unveiled the first look at their upcoming theme park, being created for Universal Studios Japan. It will be called Super Nintendo World and it is intended to be finished sometime in 2020.
The video offers us a first look at what is being envisioned for Super Nintendo World. There only appears to be Mario based attractions so far, with all of the planned structures coming from the Mushroom Kingdom. So far, they have revealed Princess Peach’s Castle, Bowser’s Castle, a Mushroom House, and an ice level building. Nintendo has mentioned that other Nintendo franchises will be represented at the park, though Mario will be the main focus of Super Nintendo World’s aesthetic.
PREVIOUSLY: SUPER NINTENDO WORLD COMING TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS?
Super Nintendo World was first announced in 2015, though construction has only recently begun. A ceremony was held to celebrate the start of the building work on the site. It was during this ceremony that a Mario Kart attraction was announced for the first time. The initial reports stated that Super Nintendo World was going to cost around forty billion yen to build, which rivals the cost of what was spent on the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. These projections have now been raised so that Super Nintendo World is expected to cost fifty billion yen, which is around four hundred million dollars.
Universal Studios are aiming to have the first Super Nintendo World opened in time for the 2020 Olympic games, which are due to be held in Tokyo. If Super Nintendo World is finished in time for the Olympics, then it is projected to bring trillions of yen into the local economy.
The initial video for Super Nintendo World is reminiscent of the Mario levels you see in the Nintendo Minecraft games. While the name infers that other prominent Nintendo characters are going to show up at some point, we have so far only seen Mario related materials in Super Nintendo World. This is a shame, as areas based on The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and especially Pokémon would be a huge deal. Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom are certainly a big draw, but will they be enough to entice audiences to travel to Japan and spend lots of money? We know that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter does amazing business and even the Japanese location manages to attract a sizeable foreign audience. Super Nintendo World is going to cost a lot of money to build and even more to staff and maintain. The question is: will Super Nintendo World be a worthwhile investment for Universal Studios and Nintendo?
Super Nintendo World is due to open at Universal Studios Japan in 2020. There are also going to be Super Nintendo Worlds developed for the Universal Studios in Hollywood and Orlando.
