Ultimate. It seemed that Nintendo was banking the immediate future of the Switch on two games alone.
Nintendo made the right call, as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the fastest selling Nintendo Switch game of all time in the United Kingdom and its launch sales have far surpassed Super Smash Bros. Brawl during the same period, even though Brawl was on the Nintendo Wii, which had a much bigger audience than the Switch.
Gamesindustry.biz is reporting that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launched at the number one spot on the UK sales list, pushing Fifa 2019 from the top and moving ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The sales figures released so far only include the physical release of the game and don’t factor in digital downloads, which is something that we may need to wait until the next Nintendo financial report to learn about.
The fact that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is off to such a strong start in the United Kingdom is an amazing sign for the game’s success. The fact that we are coming off a number of Nintendo Switch promotions from Black Friday, as well as the surprise announcement that Joker from Persona 5 will be appearing in the game both likely played a factor in many people picking up the game.
