With Supernatural’s final seven-episode run nearly here, stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have revealed an episode idea they pitched that sadly didn’t make it into the last season—a Naked Gun-style parody episode, tentatively titled “Naked Supernatural.” The two stars have had major creative influence during the show’s 15-year duration, with Ackles even having directed a few episodes. Supernatural returns to begin its farewell tour on October 8th.

Despite having run for so long, there are still a lot of stories many fans would love to see Supernatural tell. Much of that continued dedication is due to the unparalleled chemistry and charisma of Ackles and Padalecki as Dean and Sam Winchester, and the way the show has shaped itself around the stars’ strengths. Of course, Misha Collins’ Castiel is a big factor too. With only a few episodes left to wrap up 15 years of plot threads and loose ends, it will be fascinating to see how it all comes together. Fortunately for Winchester die-hards, the show’s writers have confirmed that the finale, at the very least, will focus primarily on wrapping up Sam and Dean’s personal journey.

In a new interview with Variety, Ackles and Padalecki discuss one idea that didn’t make the final cut for season 15—a self-parody episode in the style of the notorious Naked Gun films. The idea, which Ackles said they referred to as “Naked Supernatural,” was pitched by the duo, but ultimately wouldn’t fit into the time the show had left. Ackles called it “the ‘Naked Gun’ version of ‘Supernatural,’” and said that everything would have been very “tongue-in-cheek. Everything is any kind of horrible joke we could possibly fathom — it was going to be that version of ‘Supernatural.’”

With all the horrible things, apocalypses, and various deaths that have befallen the Winchesters over the course of their paranormal adventures, it’s always been nice when the show takes a lighter comedy episode to break things up. Those moments of charm and their balance with the series’ more serious plotlines are big parts of what’s made Supernatural so special and beloved. Hopefully, even without “Naked Supernatural,” the last seven episodes will still have a couple of lighter moments throughout. The first episode back, “Last Holiday,” looks to be one of those.

Maybe someday fans can get the parody Ackles and Padalecki wanted to make. Padalecki floated the idea to Variety, and Ackles has previously stated that he’d be happy to return to the franchise some years down the line. Supernatural returns to kick off its final run later this week, on October 8th.
