The CW is reportedly developing a fresh television adaptation of Francine Pascal’s hit book series for young adults, Sweet Valley High.

A television adaptation of Sweet Valley High is reportedly in the works for The CW. Based on the best-selling young adult book series by Francine Pascal, the new series will mark the second adaptation of the novels. The previous series ran for four seasons from 1994 until 1997, starring the likes of Brittany Daniel, Cynthia Daniel, Amy Danles, and Ryan Bittle.

Now, according to Deadline, The CW is in the process of developing a fresh television adaptation of Sweet Valley High. The new series, titled Sweet Valley, reportedly hails from Gossip Girl developers, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The project will be created in partnership between CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios.

Sweet Valley High documents the school years of Elizabeth Wakefield and her newly returned twin, Jessica. After moving to the idyllic titular town, it falls to Enid Ruiz to prove that someone or something is fanning the flames of rivalry between the pair. Author Pascal explored the Wakefield sisters’ evolving relationship and rivalry over the course of 181 books, published between 1983 and 2003. Penning the latest television iteration is Ashley Wigfield, who worked with Schwartz and Savage on a number of other titles, including the Gossip Girl reboot, Marvel’s Runaways, and Looking for Alaska. Fake Empire is producing the series, with Peter Chernin’s company, Chernin Entertainment, also involved. The company has previously been attached to a reported film adaptation. Further narrative and casting details on Sweet Valley are yet to be revealed.
