The Strange Scraps have been assembled and as trainers probably figured out for themselves, balloons are at the heart of Team GO Rocket’s evil plans.

July is a pretty packed month for Pokémon GO, and with good reason. Not only does it mark the fourth anniversary of the game’s launch, but it will also play host to GO Fest 2020. Between timed research, spotlight hours, and the arrival of Kyurem, there is an awful lot to keep trainers busy this month.

On top of all that, there has been the tease of what appears to be an imminent invasion by Team GO Rocket. Niantic has been posting pictures of what it has referred to as Strange Scraps. Torn pieces of paper depicting what looks like the beginnings of a devious plan by Pokémon GO’s villains. It also shows the return of an iconic Rocket must-have, the hot air balloon.

In a recent post on the Pokémon GO Twitter account, the scraps have been assembled and show two different series that resemble comic strips. The first shows a Grunt trying to capture a trainer’s Pikachu, and the second appears to be instructions on how to correctly assemble and fly the Rocket balloons. The tweet reads that after talks with Professor Willow, it is believed Team GO Rocket is preparing for a second invasion.

Pokémon GO is a game that hinges on a link between video games and reality, which is why something spotted in the skies above Munich today is incredibly cool. One of the Rocket balloons featured in the Strange Scraps. Not a mocked-up picture from Niantic, or even a nifty camera trick where trainers can see the balloon if they look to the sky through their cameras. An actual Rocket balloon flying high above the city.

No word yet on when exactly this invasion will take place. It could be building to whatever GO Fest 2020 is focused around, although that seems like a long way off considering how much the situation has escalated already. As for Rocket balloons, we would advise trainers to keep an eye on the sky, as we imagine the one in Munich won’t be the only one taking to the air today.
