In a new body paint cosplay video, Teen Titans’ hated traitor Terra shows off her geokinetic powers. Able to manipulate earth and rock, Terra is a supervillain who famously infiltrated and betrayed the Teen Titans in perhaps the team’s most famous story arc.

Despite dying in “The Judas Contract” while trying to crush the team, Terra has become a huge part of Teen Titans lore, appearing in adaptations and retellings that have cast her as everything from an unwilling dupe of supervillain Deathstroke to a vicious, amoral killer.

A new cosplay shared by Melissa Croft on Twitter recreates the most heroic version of Terra, painting her redesign for DC’s New 52 initiative. Croft is a body paint artist who frequently depicts comic characters, from mainstays like Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gamora to more obscure characters like the X-Men’s Rasputin IV and Justice Society of America member Jade. For some characters, Croft creates short videos recreating their powers with special effects, and that’s the case with Terra, whose eyes and hands light up as the camera shakes and is covered with debris.

In the New 52, Terra wasn’t a deceitful member of the Teen Titans, but a committed member of the Ravagers, along with Ridge, Thunder, Lightning, and Beast Boy. She and Beast Boy developed a sincere romance in this version of DC canon, though she was ultimately kidnapped by Deathstroke. In the DC Rebirth era that followed, Terra was once again a callous villain, but with the publisher having recently consolidated every past version of continuity into the still-unfolding Infinite Frontier era, it’s still to be seen what parts of Terra’s story will remain and which will be changed when she inevitably pops up again.

Strangely, while Terra’s powers are visually impressive and incredibly versatile – giving her the brute strength to cause earthquakes, but also the fine control to shape golem-like beings out of rock – they tend to be among the least popular in comics. Even as hydrokinesis, or water-manipulation, has increased in frequency – likely due to contemporary stories exploring themes of climate change – geokinesis tends to be reserved for lesser-seen characters like Terra, forgotten X-Man Petra, and onetime Black Panther villain Gabe Dinu. Terra’s abilities remain a recurring choice for superhuman character that writers don’t actually intend to show more than once, despite how cool they look in Croft’s video.

While Teen Titans fans will probably never get to find out how Terra’s story ended in the New 52 continuity (though this being comics, never say never), body paint artist Melissa Croft brings her to life in her latest cosplay, giving Ravagers’ heroic incarnation what’s likely to be one last moment in the spotlight.
