Though this MTV show stopped airing in 2017, fans still miss the vibrant characters of Beacon Hills. Teen Wolf featured many supernatural creatures and over-the-top plot twists, but what fans cherished the most were the characters and their relationships. At its core, the show was always about friendship.

Romance has always been a key part of the show and is a major catalyst for the plot of season 1. Some couples had the audience’s support from the get-go, like Stiles and Lydia, but others weren’t as convincing, like Scott and Malia. Even objectively speaking, some couples on the show are either toxic or completely nonsensical.

10 Danny And Ethan

Danny and Ethan seem like a sweet couple at first, but their entire relationship is based on lies and manipulation. Though Ethan truly seems to care about Danny, he’s essentially using him to get close to Scott and his pack.

Aiden constantly torments Ethan about his crush on Danny, but Ethan never tells Danny the truth about who he is or what he’s doing in Beacon Hills. In the end, the lack of trust and honesty in their relationship contributes to their breakup.

9 Lydia And Jackson

Lydia and Jackson are one of the first couples on the show. Their relationship is all about status and power, and showcases the toxicity of high school clique culture.

Their relationship is pretty meaningless, but even though they’re not romantically interested in each other, they do have a lot of love for each other. This becomes clear when they meet again in season 6, still amicable after all that time. However, when they’re together, they’re possessive, manipulative, and emotionally abusive towards each other.

8 Scott And Malia

Scott and Malia’s relationship doesn’t have much time to develop on screen, and when Malia is first introduced in season 3, nobody could imagine that she and Scott would end up together.

Their romance feels rushed and like it comes out of nowhere, leaving viewers questioning why their relationship becomes romantic. The two already have a strong and well-developed friendship, and it seems unnecessary to make their relationship romantic. Furthermore, the two lose trust in each other earlier in the show when Malia turns her back on Scott.

7 Allison And Isaac

Like Ethan and Danny’s relationship, Allison and Isaac’s is largely based on falsehoods. Isaac’s feelings for Allison may be true, but Allison essentially uses him to get over Scott. On her part, the relationship seems more physical rather than emotional, but Isaac is left heartbroken when she dies.

As she dies in Scott’s arms, she reveals that she has loved him all along, which is pretty clear to viewers, but Isaac is standing nearby and isn’t even acknowledged by Allison.

6 Lydia And Aiden

Most of Lydia’s romantic relationships are devoid of emotional attachment. Over time, she comes to care about Aiden, but ultimately she chooses to leave him and join Scott’s pack. Lydia knows that Aiden isn’t a good guy, and she has matured enough to want to take ownership of who she really is.

Lydia is proud to be clever, and she wants to use her knowledge and her newfound powers to help Scott fight for the greater good. She knows that Aiden is on the opposing side of that war, and she no longer wishes to be associated with him, or be engaged in any more meaningless relationships.

5 Chris And Victoria

Allison’s parents have one of the strangest relationships on the show. Their romance seems nonsensical and lacking any sort of emotional attachment. Victoria is a leader and strategist, while Chris and the other men of the family go out into battle.

Allison’s relationship with both parents is strained, though she eventually makes amends with Chris. Victoria is rarely depicted as a mother, and when she dies, Allison is almost unsure how to feel. Not to mention, they both hide Allison’s true heritage from her, and later Chris helps Victoria kill herself because of their extreme prejudice against the supernatural.

4 Melissa And Peter

Early in the show, Scott’s mom decides to try dating, and the first person she matches with is none other than Peter Hale. He, of course, has set this up to get closer to Scott, but Scott can’t tell let his mom know who he is, or she’ll discover he’s a werewolf.

Peter doesn’t care about Melissa at all, and if they did end up getting together, he’d probably kill her. Scott even has a hallucination in season 3 where Peter slashes her throat open with his claws.

3 Derek And Jennifer

Derek seems to have it tough when it comes to romance. He’s suffered tremendous heartbreak before he’s even graduated from high school, having to witness his beloved Paige die in his arms, and feels like he can’t trust anyone.

Jennifer is the first person he’s really opened up to in a long time, but it turns out he shouldn’t have trusted her either. Of course, Jennifer is the darach, and she’s been lying to him, using him for information, and manipulating him. She’s evil, conniving, and puts Derek back to square one – emotionally, at least.

2 Theo And Tracy

Theo really shouldn’t be involved with anyone – romantically or otherwise. He doesn’t form any real meaningful connections with any other character for most of the series. He only wants to gain power, at any expense. Furthermore, he pretends to be charming and understanding, which makes him such an insidious threat. Some of Scott’s pack trusts him, and Theo abuses that trust.

Theo does the same with Tracy. He uses her body, like so many others, and violates and mutilates her. In the end, he murders her to steal her power. From the beginning, Theo takes advantage of a vulnerable, lonely person for his own gain, and hurts other people in the process.

1 Derek And Kate

The history between these two is never made totally explicit, but Kate hints at a romantic past between them. Derek clearly feels haunted and traumatized by it, and the reason he never brings it up is that he’s not proud of it.

Kate seems to have taken advantage of a much younger Derek, and she destroyed his family. Kate continues tormenting Derek years later, and he still isn’t over it. Everything about this relationship is wrong, from the power dynamic to their opposing goals.
