Most of the birds found in Pokémon games have been somewhat mundane, based on species such as sparrows, pigeons, or, robins. Temtem has decided to go down a different route and instead based Tuwai on a more exotic breed: the Toucan.

However, Tuwai is more than just another bird in a monster collecting game. Tuwai are meta-mimetic Temtem, which means they don’t evolve in the same way as other Temtem. Instead, Tuwai will only evolve under certain conditions. So far, there is only one evolution of Tuwai — Tuvine — but more may be planned as Temtem as still very much under construction.

Here’s where you can get your hands on a Tuwai and how to evolve it into Tuvine.

Where To Find Tuwai

Finding Tuwai is easy — Professor Konstantinos hands you one right at the beginning of the game. You won’t be able to find another Tuwai until you reach the Crystal Shrine on the Island of Tucma. However, expect to spend a long time there if you plan on farming out another Tuwai, as the toucan-like Temtem has a spawn rate of just 5%.

Tuvine cannot be found in the wild and must evolve from Tuwai.

How To Evolve Tuwai Into Tuvine

Tuwai is a meta-mimetic Temtem — a rare set of Temtem that only evolve under certain conditions. Tuwai will only evolve into Tuvine at the Crystal Shrine, which you can only access after completing the Crystal Hunt sidequest. That sidequest is no easy feat, as you have to use an all-Crystal-type Temtem squad against a collection of Tamers that have type advantages against you. They’re also between levels 33 and 44, so don’t expect to get Tuvine until much later in the game.

What Tuwai And Tuvine Can Do In Battle

Tuwai is a Wind-type Temtem, meaning it’s strong against Toxic and Earth-types, but weak against Electric-types. It also takes half damage from other Wind-type Temtem. Tuwai stats are quite average, however, it can be a strong Wind-type to use early on. It can also have the trait Spoilsport, which boosts the power of multi-targeting techniques. When combined with Shrill Voice, Tuwai can do significant damage to opposing Temtem.

Once evolved into Tuvine, it gains the Crystal-type. This makes it strong against Mental, Toxic, and Earth-type Temtem, but weak to Fire and Melee-types. Tuvine is no longer weak to Electric due to the mixed typing.

Tuvine also gains an enormous Defense-stat — better than any other Temtem in the game. This makes Tuvine an excellent physical wall that can hit back with some significantly powerful Crystal and Wind-type techniques. Tuvine can do well with a faster support Temtem that can boost its lackluster Attack and Special Attack power and turn it into a true threat.

So far, Tuvine is the only known evolution of Tuwai, but as Temtem is still under development, more evolutions could be added in the future. You might want to keep your Tuwai un-evolved or find a second Tuwai for when new evolutions do arrive.
