The turn of the millennium brought forth the Golden Age of Television, which continues to grow at warp speed. Though consumers now have endless viewing options at their fingertips, nostalgic favorites still hold weight, and re-runs are just as prevalent.

One Tree Hill premiered back in 2003 and captured the hearts of millions of fans for almost ten years. Through all of the show’s epic twists and turns, there have surely been some outrageous villains thrown in to stir the pot. Here’s a list of the top ten most evil villains introduced throughout the show’s run.

10 Victoria Davis

Brooke Davis’ parents were only known for neglecting her, so fans were surprised when Brooke was seen working alongside her mother, Victoria Davis (Daphne Zuniga) in season 5 (which skips ahead a few years). Victoria delivers quite the dramatic performance: just as uptight, high-maintenance, and nasty as fans could’ve ever imagined!

Victoria’s lowest point comes when she almost gets her daughter in trouble for her own wrongdoings– forging investment documents for Brooke’s clothing company, Clothes Over Bros. The company goes bankrupt and Victoria goes to jail but eventually makes her way back into the good graces of Brooke and Julian by the last season.

9 Rachel Gatina

Though she had her moments, Rachel Gatina was mainly portrayed as a villain throughout her time on One Tree Hill. Her most unforgivable act was anonymously releasing the Tree Hill High time capsule, which directly caused the Jimmy Edwards school shooting and conclusion of Keith Scott’s life. Rachel also tried to break up Nathan and Haley’s marriage, caused Mouth to go to jail after convincing him to follow her on the road, and even wound up marrying Dan Scott!

Though Rachel’s misdeeds don’t end there, she does have a soft side and demonstrates some compassion, unlike most of the villains on this list.

8 Jake’s Baby-Mama Nicki

Emmanuelle Vaugier first entered One Tree Hill in season one as Lucas’ one night stand, and later reveals herself to be Jake Jagielski’s absentee baby-mama, Nicki. Her character played mind games throughout the first two seasons, constantly manipulating others into believing she’s changed and finally ready for motherhood.

Nicki returned in season two to fight an ugly custody battle, forcing Jake to turn himself over to the police after being on the run with their daughter, Jenny. Nicki was last mentioned in season three, where she was sharing custody with Jake in Savannah.

7 Renee Richardson AKA The Attempted Home-Wrecker

Renee Richardson was introduced in season 7 as the woman who claims to have had an affair with Nathan Scott while he was on the road during his first NBA season, disregarding his marriage to Haley. It was frustrating for fans to watch the Scott family be tested once more– especially after Renee claimed to be pregnant with Nathan’s child and tried extorting them.

Nathan stands strong and refuses to cave to Renee’s attempts at blackmailing him, but Dan Scott throws a wrench in his plans when he offers Renee a chance to tell-all on his daytime talk show, side-by-side with his new wife Rachel Gatina– another villain included in this list! Dan surprises us once again when his plan all along was to expose Renee as a fraud, blindsiding her with a lie detector test on-stage!

6 Loan-Shark Daunte Jones

Portrayed by Rick Fox, Daunte Jones is the devious loan shark who preys on a vulnerable Nathan, a dollar short of his dreams. Nathan’s late on payments, so Daunte blackmails the captain of the Tree Hill Ravens, asking him to point-shave. After a pep-talk from Lucas, Nathan realizes he can’t throw the state championship game– their victory causes Daunte’s gamblings to go awry, and he seeks the ultimate payback.

After celebrating their championship, Haley gets hit by a car as she’s crossing the street, and Nathan quickly deciphers the intent behind the crash as he notices Daunte behind the wheel. Overcome with anger, Nathan pulls Daunte from the car and beats him to a pulp, though medical examinations determine the car crash was the cause of his death.

5 Dan Scott

Full comprehension of Dan Scott’s indiscretions would take too long to write out, so the shortlist includes: abandoning his pregnant teenage girlfriend Karen, forcing her to raise Lucas alone, torturing his wife Deb, being physically and mentally abusive to his son Nathan, and oh yeah– killing his only brother, Keith Scott, in cold blood!

Dan Scott was One Tree Hill’s original villain, acting like a cat with nine lives throughout the series, constantly at the brink of death. While Dan’s malignant behavior is undeniable, he’s also acted as a hero multiple times, like saving Lucas from the car crash in season 1, and saving Jamie from being kidnapped by Nanny Carrie (see below). Dan became the ultimate martyr in season 9 when he saves Nathan from being held hostage by Russian mob boss Dmitri, so his villain status remains lower than others.

4 Katie Ryan

Clay Evans assumes he’s imagining things when he meets Katie Ryan, a prospective tennis pro who bears a striking resemblance to his late wife, Sarah Evans. Katie uncovers his past relationship with her look-alike and begins to stalk Clay, endangering both him and his girlfriend Quinn, Haley’s sister. Katie crashed her car into Quinn’s art gallery to steal a portrait of Clay, but her worst act came in the season 7 finale when she shoots both Quinn and Clay, intending to kill them.

Luckily the adorable pair both make it out alive, but Katie’s whereabouts were at large, causing Quinn to eventually hunt her down. After a grueling battle between these two women, Quinn finally seeks revenge when she shoots Katie, but immediately calls 9-1-1, saying “only a psycho would leave a person bleeding out for over twelve hours.”

3 Nanny Carrie

Portrayed by Torrey DeVito (Pretty Little Liars), nanny Carrie will always remain as one of the most wicked TV villains to date. After Nathan and Haley hire Carrie to be Jamie’s new nanny, she quickly shows her true colors by obnoxiously flirting with Nathan. She even ends up sneaking into one of his showers, which Haley, of course, walks in on. Carrie kidnaps Jamie from Lucas and Lindsey’s wedding, ready to dye his hair in a shotty hotel room before getting caught.

Dan Scott tries to save the day once more when he tracks Carrie down, who ends up capturing Dan and holding him hostage, planning to murder him while manically acting as his nurse, syringes and all! After a rough cat-and-mouse chase through a corn maze, Dan ends up saving his ex-wife Deb and daughter-in-law Haley by shooting crazy Carrie dead.

2 Peyton’s “Brother Derek” AKA Ian Banks

During this disturbing season 4 storyline, Peyton’s long-lost half brother reaches out to her after she announces wanting to get to know him through her podcast (she was so ahead of her time having a podcast in 2006), only learning he existed the previous year when she met her true birth mom.

Things seem pristine— brother Derek looks just like Peyton, and the two become thick as thieves right off the bat. Luckily, Lucas begins to suspect something’s up after Petyon’s stolen jacket ends up on a battered prostitute in the ER, who happens to look just like her. One Tree Hill unnervingly reveals Derek’s sinister intent using Audioslave’s poignant “I Am The Highway” as the backdrop– a hauntingly unforgettable scene.

1 Xavier Daniels

After murdering Quinten Fields and holding Sam and his younger brother Jack hostage, Xavier Daniels finally gets what’s coming to him when Brooke uncovers Sam’s whereabouts and also makes the shocking discovery that Xavier is the same creep who attacked her and robbed Clothes Over Bros, uttering the same bone-chilling “have a nice night” she heard the night of her assault.

Unfortunately, Xavier’s menacing behavior continues in season 9 when he’s released on parole and offered a job at the rival cafe across the street from Brooke’s. The competing cafe’s owner, Tara Richards, completely diminishes Brooke’s PTSD and doesn’t believe Xavier’s evilness until she witnesses him trying to murder Brooke, arriving just in the nick of time to tase him!
