The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

Weapons are a Witcher’s best friend, and CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 is loaded with weapons both extremely useful and frustratingly useless.

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

Geralt of Rivia is nothing without his swords or his other Witcher tools. That might be hard to believe, but The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and even the preceding games have proven this many times over, particularly when Geralt gets into fisticuffs with some drunken brawlers; they pretty much turn him into a weird, cat-eyed punching bag.

So, it stands within reason that Geralt should get the best tools for the job. Be it hunting down monsters or cutting up some miscreants in any kingdom, swords and other weapons are paramount to Geralt’s profession. That’s why, for all his Witcher needs, players ought to pick only the best weapons for Geralt, and, at the same time, avoid some suboptimal choices.

10 Best: Aerondight

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

The Aerondight is the Lady of the Lake’s favorite gift to Geralt—well, second favorite gift, maybe. In any case, it’s the best of the best when it comes to slaying monsters.

This silver sword doesn’t have any fancy stat boosts like the others, but it has one property whereupon each blow increases the damage by 10% with a maximum charge. Additionally, killing an enemy with a fully charged Aerondight increases the sword’s damage permanently, and this scales with character level. Every other silver sword just pales in comparison.

9 Worst: Blade from the Bits (Relic)

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

Technically, the Blade from the Bits sword isn’t the worst when it comes to stats. Its best version (Relic grade) is certainly better than the common or magic sword. However, that version is made by none other than Hattori the Elf himself, and someone with his reputation is expected to put out something better than a measly +50% Critical hit damage bonus property.

That’s the only quality that the Blade from the Bits has, something that’s also seen in weapons of lower grade or quality. That pretty much makes Blade from the Bits one of the worst Relic-grade swords from The Witcher 3. Maybe Hattori should have stuck to making dumplings instead of smithing subpar weaponry.

8 Best: Toussaint Knight’s Steel Sword (Crafted)

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

Speaking of smithing and crafting, the best steel sword in The Witcher 3 is made from scratch. That would be the Toussaint Knight’s Steel Sword (crafted version), and it’s the Aerondight of people-slaying weapons. However, like Aerondight, it’s also only available in Blood and Wine.

This steel monster has an avalanche of stats that can easily drown the players in numbers and Geralt in human blood. It deals +300 Armor-piercing, +30% Quen sign intensity, +100% Critical hit damage bonus, +20% Critical hit chance, and +15% Chance to cause burning. Players don’t even need to finish a quest to earn this sword’s diagram.

7 Worst: Eirlithrad (Crafted)

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

One would expect such an oddly named sword to have equally unique stats or bonuses, but Eirlithrad is just a disappointing waste of resources and time—time that Geralt could have spent winning Gwent or pursuing other swords. There are many variations of Eirlithrad, but the worst, and the one in question, is the crafted variant.

It’s a magic-grade weapon, but, ironically, there is nothing magical about it, as it has no statistical bonuses; the only thing it has going for it is the damage, which is average at best for a sword of its class. The Eirlithrad shouldn’t even be up for consideration, especially with how common Witcher school swords are in the game.

6 Best: Belhaven Blade

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

A good alternative for the Toussaint Knight’s Steel Sword would be the Belhaven Blade. The community’s math is that it’s less effective in bisecting enemies than the Toussaint behemoth, but it still works as an option in case the players want to focus on Aard or leveling up or poisoning their enemies.

This sword comes with +30% Aard Sign intensity, +100% Critical hit damage bonus, +15% Critical hit chance, +15% Chance to poison, and a +5% Bonus experience when killing humans and nonhumans. That’s not to mention that it has a lovely serrated edge and might look subjectively more intimidating than the Toussaint Knight’s Steel Sword.

5 Worst: Disglair (Crafted)

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

Disglair pretty much has the same problem as Eirlithrad. It’s a weapon with a cool name, but that’s pretty much it. Even the dropped versions of Disglair are disappointing, and the best it has is a master-grade sword that has negligible bonuses to Witcher signs.

Meanwhile, the crafted version is just the worst. It’s pretty much a reskinned Eirlithrad. It’s a magic-grade weapon that doesn’t have anything noteworthy. How and why some players would choose this over a witcher school sword is just beyond anyone’s comprehension.

4 Best: Gesheft

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

Looking for a witcher silver blade that’s actually a good replaced for the Aerondight especially for a sign-focused Geralt? Look no further than Gesheft! It’s the perfect silver sword for any Witcher who always wanted to be a sorcerer or mage when they were a kid.

The is all about magic and gives +20% intensity to all witcher signs. It also has three slots, making it a good choice as a relic-grade sword for more customized builds. Meanwhile, the damage is also nothing to scoff at and scales with the player level. Much like Aerondight, though, it’s only obtainable in Blood and Wine.

3 Worst: Wooden Sword

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

It’s a weapon. Technically. The wooden sword might look like a joke, but at least it knows its purpose compared to the Eirlithrad and the Disglair crafted weapons. It’s usually obtainable from sparring quests where Geralt has to train that spoiled Nilfgaardian teenager.

Players can keep their wooden sword and even use it in combat. In the quest, it’s not exactly lethal, but that doesn’t stop players from bludgeoning enemies to death with it outside of any sparring missions. That doesn’t make it any more viable than fists, though, but it’s still a good challenge for those who find Death March a little too easy.

2 Best: Crossbow

The 5 Strongest Weapons In The Witcher 3 (& The 5 Weakest)

Apart from swords, Geralt also has to frequently rely on ranged weaponry to get the job done. After all, many of the monsters he hunts can fly or swim. Enter the super-crossbow that Vesemir got for Geralt. This is likely the most lethal and efficient projectile weapon ever made in The Witcher universe.

It somehow works underwater and has a plethora of ammunition for different situations effectively turning Geralt into Batman. Moreover, this one-handed and portable crossbow can easily knock out huge flyers such as Royal Griffins from the sky. It’s a miracle Nilfgaard hasn’t adopted such technology earlier, as they could have won easily with these crossbows.

1 Worst: Geralt’s Fists

Last and certainly the least useful or damaging weapon in Geralt’s arsenal, his own fists. Geralt can’t even use them to knock out some lanky or emaciated fighters with one punch no matter how hard he tried. He often gets owned by mere humans in fistfights.

That’s odd, considering his reflexes work regardless of what weapon he’s using. Besides, he has mutations to back up those reflexes and could theoretically win brawls easily. Sadly, even one of the most masculine protagonists in video games such as Geralt has to have a weakness, and that comes in the form of his ineptitude in unarmed combat.
