A new Star Wars: The Bad Batch trailer shows the galaxy-spanning action of Dave Filoni’s newest animated show. The Disney+ series will follow Clone Force 99 – colloquially known as “The Bad Batch” – a genetically altered team of enhanced clone troopers first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7. The Bad Batch is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on May 4.

Set after the end of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Galactic Empire, The Bad Batch will see Hunter, Echo, Tech, Wrecker, and Crosshair embarking on dangerous missions across the galaxy as an elite group of soldiers for hire. The period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope is still one of the less-explored onscreen Star Wars eras, so the show should give some interesting insights into the Empire’s early days. Both The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels received widespread acclaim during their respective runs, so expectations for The Bad Batch are high.

Fortunately, the new Star Wars: The Bad Batch trailer is an encouraging look at what’s to come. Clone Force 99 is first shown performing training exercises on Kamino under the watchful eye of Grand Moff Tarkin, before abandoning their post and subsequently going on the run from Imperial forces. There’s plenty of stylish action and classic character cameos, promising an exciting show for all ages of Star Wars fans. Watch the new Bad Batch trailer and see the new poster below.

From the trailer, it looks like Tarkin may be the primary antagonist of the show, constantly pursuing the Bad Batch as valuable assets of the Imperial military. The Mandalorian’s Fennec Shand also appears a good bit throughout the trailer – still voiced by Ming-Na Wen – though the bounty hunter is of course much younger this time around. Even Captain Rex shows up in a brief shot. Given the time period The Bad Batch is set in, there are plenty of other Star Wars characters who could pop up as well.

The fan response to Clone Force 99 in The Clone Wars season 7 was a bit mixed, and some expressed concern that the characters wouldn’t be able to carry a full show. The writing and overall group dynamic in the trailer seem strong, however, and with Filoni and other Star Wars veterans at the helm, Hunter, Echo, Tech, Wrecker and Crosshair are sure to all get properly developed and fleshed out. In short, there’s plenty of reason to get excited for the Disney+ premiere of The Bad Batch on May 4.
