A newly revealed action figure confirms Catwoman will have her signature whip in Matt Reeves’ The Batman movie. The Batman received a new trailer at this week’s virtual DC Fandome event, revealing Reeves’ more modern and gothic take on the franchise, including new footage of the films main cast. The trailer also showed a closer look at Robert Pattinson’s Batman in action, from a chase scene in the new-look Batmobile, to a beat down of a group of face-painted criminal thugs.
The Batman, which will be Pattinson’s first outing as the Caped Crusader, is a reboot of the franchise that sees Pattinson star as a much younger version of the DC superhero. Only in his second year of crime-fighting, Batman will take on his biggest foe yet, serial killer The Riddler (Paul Dano), while also grappling with an unrecognisably transformed Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin. The film’s stellar cast also includes Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, John Turturro as crime lord Carmine Falcon, and Andy Serkis as Batman’s butler Alfred.
Amongst the many announcements at yesterday’s DC event, Entertainment Earth has released a series of The Batman action figures. These include a model of the new Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) sporting a very familiar piece of kit. Despite playing a central role in the latest The Batman trailer, Kravitz’s Catwoman has managed to keep her whip well hidden. As such, the action figure is the first confirmation that her trademark weapon and burglary tool will show up in the film. The new figure also gives us a closer look at Selina Kyle’s new outfit, featuring rough leathers and a cat-eared motorcycle helmet. Check it out below:
Kravtiz recently discussed her Catwoman role, highlighting her goal of ensuring that the character feels “real” and not fetishized. From the trailer, it appears as though Kravitz has achieved this, and her costume works well to complement Reeves’ newest take on the Dark Knight. While Batman’s most recent outings have been far from joyous affairs, Reeve’s film is clearly focused on being an eerie, modern Batman story, and Kravitz’ Catwoman looks to fit the art direction perfectly.
It’s clear that the future of the Batman movie franchise is in safe hands with Reeves. While much of the information surrounding Pattinson’s Batman film is still under-wraps, the latest trailer helps solidify veteran actor Andy Serkis’ confidence that The Batman will be “amazing.” And with the film focusing on a much younger Batman, there’s plenty of potential for the actor to take up the iconic role of Defender of Gotham in many more movies to come.
