The Batman will reportedly be filming into early 2021, with production said to be reaching completion in February. Filming for the movie was suspended earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. When it resumed filming in September, production was quickly shut down again after star Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19. Filming resumed later that month and has carried on ever since, with shoots taking place in the UK and Chicago.

The Batman was originally slated to be released on June 25, 2021. Due to the initial production delays, that date was pushed back to October 1. When Warner Bros. moved 2020 tentpole Dune to that release date, it was clear another delay was imminent. The Batman finally settled on a March 2022 release date, giving production enough time to perfect the film.

In an interview on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, Colin Farrell revealed that he is set to film scenes on and off until February 2021. The main cast and crew of the film are stationed in London, while additional scenes are being shot in Chicago. Farrell’s quote about The Batman’s filming schedule can be read below:

“They had a little bump in the road a few weeks ago that you may or may not have read about. They are back shooting now. I start up again after a 7 month break on Monday. I shoot until February on and off.”

In addition to Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and Farrell as the Penguin, the film stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. However, it’s who hasn’t been cast yet that fans are interested in. Amidst all of the leaks from the set, eagle-eyed fans have spotted hints that Superman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman may all exist within director Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. If this is the case, this could be one of the reasons why filming might be taking a little bit longer than initially expected. That being said, many believe these images are just of a Halloween party rather than a big superhero team-up.

Wishful theorizing aside, the lengthy filming time could be simply because of Reeves’ directorial vision. When filming was initially delayed, only 25% of the film had been completed, enough to give fans a trailer for The Batman at DC FanDome. Despite this, though, it was clear from the trailer that only minimal shooting had been done. Some of the leaked set photos even allude to there being reshoots, with the cast revisiting a funeral scene that was already featured in the trailer. Whatever the case may be, the completion date gives the cast and crew plenty of time to perfect the film, both in their performances and in the post-production process. Barring any further delays, by the time the film hits theaters in 2022, The Batman will most likely be its best version, something fans will surely be happy about.
