Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

Diablo 2: Resurrected has a variety of classes and builds, some of which can be optimized for solo playthroughs. Some classes, like the Assassin or Barbarian, have flaws that make them difficult to use when playing alone. This is especially important to consider when players get up to Hell difficulty, because experience and gold will be lost every time the character dies.

While every character can potentially be played alone, there are specific builds, like the Summoner Necromancer, that can be used to complete a solo game much easier. Top characters can use skills that lower resistance, surround the player with minions, or use items with the best magical properties.

Diablo 2: Resurrected has many challenges for players to try alone, such as finding and completing the Hellforge or defeating Baal. The Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorceress are the best classes to use for playing alone, and each of them has an optimal build. Although every class has flaws, these three are the strongest and most versatile. When combined with top gear, their already powerful skills become greatly enhanced.

The Best Classes for Solo Play in Diablo 2: Resurrected

Playing alone through each difficulty in Diablo 2: Resurrected can be tough, but it becomes nearly impossible with the wrong class or build. Even when players are able to respec their characters, beating Hell difficulty alone is challenging. The best three characters to use for solo plays are the Necromancer, the Paladin, and the Sorceress. Each of these classes also has a top build that should be utilized by solo players.

Diablo 2’s Summoner Necromancer is arguably the best class and build in the game. Using summoning abilities to bring in minions, and especially the golem, gives players the ability to play alone without needing a lot of gear. Players can also use the Avenger Paladin or Hammerdin Paladin solo and get through the game fairly easily. Although more gear-heavy than the Necromancer, these Paladin builds focus on heavy damage through multiple elemental types. The Necromancer and the Paladin are also the only characters that can break immunities in enemies, which becomes crucial in Hell difficulty, where every enemy is immune to at least one type of damage.

The other character worth exploring is the Sorceress. While she can be tricky to use against enemies with elemental resistance or immunity, players can still create a powerful Blizzard or Frozen Orb Sorceress and beat the game alone. The Sorceress is easy to start building out early on, and she doesn’t need a lot of gear to be a top character. Diablo 2: Resurrected gives players the opportunity to test their skills with various characters in solo playthroughs.
