In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, trainers can build teams with the best competitive Fighting-type Pokémon to use against other trainers online or in the Battle Tower. Fighting-type Pokémon are strong against Dark, Steel, Rock, and Ice-type Pokémon, but are at a disadvantage when facing Psychic, Fairy, and Flying-types.
Fighting-type Pokémon often have roles as leads in competitive play, or they are used to sweep the opponent’s remaining Pokémon. Typically, Fighting-type Pokémon have high Attack stats that are usually complemented with a high HP or Speed stat. With the addition of Fairy-type Pokémon in BDSP, trainers now have to concern themselves with a third type of Pokémon that Fighting-types struggle against.
The best Fighting-type Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are Infernape, Lucario, Breloom, and Machamp. Infernape and Lucario are Pokémon that players can obtain without having to trade. Thanks to a feature exclusively in the Diamond and Pearl remakes, trainers can capture all three of the Sinnoh starters in the Grand Underground after they acquire the National Dex. Unfortunately, Machamp is still only obtainable if players are able to find another trainer to trade with, and then trade back the newly evolved Machamp. Breloom’s pre-evolved form, Shroomish, is available in the Grand Underground as well once players obtain the National Dex in Pokémon BDSP.
Pokémon BDSP: Best Fighting-Type Pokémon Moves, Items, & Stats
Infernape, Lucario, Breloom, and Machamp all have exceptional movepools and abilities that solidify their place on any competitive team. Infernape’s Attack and Speed stats allow it to be a strong lead Pokémon, and it benefits from being able to recover its stats with an Overheat and U-Turn combination. Lucario also has strong Attack and Speed stats, and it can use Swords Dance to set up a free Attack stat boost thanks to its Focus Sash held item and Inner Focus ability, preventing it from flinching.
Machamp’s ability, No Guard, allows it to land any move without failure. With an array of moves available to it, Machamp has near-perfect coverage against many types of Pokémon. Breloom has the unique ability Poison Heal as a Hidden Ability in Pokémon BDSP, giving it more access to Substitute uses in combination with Leech Seed, Seed Bomb, and Drain Punch.
