Although players typically avoid going into elimination rounds as much as possible (that is, until the recent skull twist that has required players to go to an elimination to compete in a final), the reality is that every Challenge competitor will have to go into the ring at some point.

While many elimination rounds have been intense, there are a few that have been downright hard to watch. Whether it’s because the elimination was tough, a player was injured, or one of the competitors acted like a fool, what are the hardest to watch eliminations in Challenge history?

10 Bananas Vs. Jordan – Free Agents

Jordan Wiseley has never been one to shy away from competition, nor has he ever been the type to hold back when it comes to claiming that he’s one of the best competitors of all time. And while he is a great competitor, watching his elimination against Johnny was cringe-worthy.

Despite the fact that he had almost no chance of winning, he talked up such a big game about pulling every kill card to go against Johnny that when the opportunity presented itself, he felt like he had to do it.

9 Leroy & Nia Vs. Bananas & Nany – Battle of the Exes II

Nany has always been a better competitor than most people give her credit for, but when she wound up getting stuck on a knot in the log she was meant to shimmy across, it gave her and Bananas no shot at winning their elimination.

Nia managed to make it, and as soon as she did, Leroy shot across his log like someone fired him out of a cannon, meaning Johnny didn’t even get the chance to compete.

8 Kyle Vs. Fessy – Double Agents

Realistically, no one thought that Kyle was going to win in a Hall Brawl against Fessy, however, it’s always tough to watch when a competitor seriously injures themselves in an elimination.

Kyle clearly did not want to quit, but when he showed his hand to the camera and his finger was an entirely new and unnatural shape, it was clear that the game was over, and it was hard to see such a gruesome-looking injury.

7 Ninja Vs. Laurel – War of the Worlds 2

Ninja Natalie was incredibly lucky to wind up in an elimination round with Laurel that heavily played to Ninja’s strengths.

However, Laurel still pulled off an upset and seemingly managed to win the elimination, and she proceeded to celebrate in the most embarrassing, over-the-top way imaginable. But things only got more cringe when it turned out Laurel hadn’t completed the drill, and Ninja wound up winning the elimination in the end anyway.

6 Derrick Vs. Joss – Vendettas

Unlike most seasoned Challenge vets, Joss had no idea what he was getting into when he stepped into the ring with Derrick, and based on Derrick’s size he figured he had him beat.

But what ensued was one of the most brutal elimination rounds in Challenge history, as Derrick and Joss absolutely would not quit and the elimination that was ostensibly about wrestling an 8-ring away from the opponent essentially devolved into Joss and Derrick just beating each other up for round after round.

5 Jay Vs. Rogan – Total Madness

The Challenge 10 Eliminations That Were Hard To Watch

When it comes to a physical battle between Jay and Rogan, the only thing Jay really has on his side is his speed. So, the fact that this elimination required him to hold a literal flaming ball and wear a giant flame-retardant suit already hamstrung him out of a win.

However, Rogan really hammered Jay and seemed to enjoy doing it, up to and including the point at which it became readily apparent that Jay was seriously injured.

4 Fessy Vs. Nelson – Double Agents

Hall Brawl is clearly an elimination that is well suited to someone of Fessy’s strength and size, so it seemed like a no-brainer that he’d beat Nelson.

However, Nelson is insanely strong and gave Fessy a run for his money, which led Fessy to essentially pummel an already injured Nelson into submission. Many fans thought that Fessy’s behavior was completely unnecessary and over the top, and although he did wind up winning, it was a poor showing on his part both in terms of skill and sportsmanship.

3 Derrick Vs. Timmy – The Gauntlet 2

This is a bit of an old school elimination that was tough to watch, but it undoubtedly stuck in the minds of many long-time Challenge fans.

When Derrick was new to The Challenge he rubbed a few people the wrong way, but when he became a captain on The Gauntlet and not only repeatedly won his eliminations, but proved himself as a great leader, he won everyone over. He went into literally every elimination in the season and won them all until he went up against Timmy, and everyone including Timmy himself was gutted to see him go at the very end.

2 Cara Maria Vs. Laurel – Free Agents

The Challenge 10 Eliminations That Were Hard To Watch

Luck truly was not on Cara Maria’s side in this season. After horribly injuring her hand, she was voted into elimination, she wound up being pitted up against Laurel, and the elimination required her to punch through a wall to climb up it.

She gave it her best effort, but it was a hopeless fight, and it was even sadder because she and her very recently former bestie Laurel had to leave the season on bad terms.

1 Johnny Vs. CT – Cutthroat

Some eliminations are hard to watch, but fans still can’t look away. And nothing could embody that feeling more than CT and Johnny’s elimination in Cutthroat.

One of the most iconic moments in Challenge history, this was the moment where the Johnny Bananas backpack was formed, and watching CT do his Transformers power-walk with Johnny helplessly flailing while strapped to CT’s back never loses its entertainment value. But even so, it’s hard to watch now-legendary Johnny lose so brutally and easily.
