With the conclusion of Spies, Lies & Allies, there have been 37 seasons of The Challenge, and some fans are a little bored and are calling for a shakeup. There have been many different season formats throughout the years, and fans are hoping to see a few of them make a return.

The show regularly repeats popular season formats that fans responded well to. In recent seasons, many fans feel the show has gotten stale. The spy theme of Spies, Lies & Allies and Double Agents was fun, but a lot of viewers would rather see a few repeats of some of their favorite formats from the past.

Battle of the Exes

There have been two Battle of the Exes seasons where players with romantic pasts are paired up, whether that past includes a relationship or just a hookup. This dynamic puts an inherent stress on partners because there’s often bitterness between exes. It’s often difficult for competitors to work together which leads to compelling content. There are also some great options for exes pairings that would make for amazing television, like Cara Maria Sorbello and Kyle Christie, or Tori Deal and Jordan Wiseley. There are so many relationships that have come out of the show, so there would be a lot to work with. Exes often learn a lot about themselves and their partners with this season format, and there’s be lots of potential for drama and redemption.

Rivals/Vendettas

There have been three seasons of Rivals and one season of Vendettas, and both of them split the cast into pairs based on teaming up players with prior grudges. The season format is similar to Battle of the Exes in that two competitors who can’t stand each other must work together if they want to win. There’s a lot of history between Challenge regulars, and a lot of bad blood has built up over the seasons. It’s definitely entertaining to see players struggle to work with people they’d rather punch in the face, but it’s also a chance for cast members to squash beefs and grow as individuals. There are many pairs that come to mind, like Kam Williams and Laurel Stucky, Johnny Bananas and Devin Walker, and Kyle and Paulie Calafiore.

Groups

On Spies, Lies & Allies when T.J. Lavin switched up the format and placed players into “cells,” or groups, fans got excited. Group seasons like Gauntlets 1 through 3 create a different dynamic and necessitate different strategies. It becomes just as much about building a strong team as it is weakening the other teams.
