Concept art for the unmade reboot of The Crow has just been released, showing Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans in the classic black and white Eric Draven makeup. The Crow is based on James O’Barr’s comic book of the same name. It tells the story of Eric Draven, a man who dies and comes back to life to avenge the murder of his fiancée Shelly. The comic book was adapted into the hit 1994 film that starred Brandon Lee as The Crow. For several years, filmmakers have been attempting to bring a new version of The Crow to cinemas. However, though there are three sequels and a television series, no remake has been made as of now.

The troubled project has seen a revolving door of talent throughout the years with the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, and Ryan Gosling all rumored or involved with The Crow reboot at some point since the original film’s first release. In 2013, Loki’s Tom Hiddleston was attached to play the title role, but eventually Dracula Untold’s Luke Evans was cast instead. Evans remained with the project for awhile before dropping out.

Now, Bloody Disgusting has secured exclusive new looks at what Hiddleston and Evans could have looked like if they had played Eric Draven, thanks to concept art. The first image shows Hiddleston in iconic The Crow face paint, designed and created by the film’s makeup designer Bill Corso. The second image shows Evans in the same face paint but with a more prominent nose scar. The Crow remake’s would-be director, F. Javier Gutiérrez (Rings), had this to say about the concept art, “We tried to make it as faithful to the graphic novel as possible. Grounded, and with attention to detail (I wanted to show the scar). Bill is brilliant, and did an amazing job.” Check out the art below:

These new concept art images show tangible evidence that there had been actual development on The Crow reboot. It also suggests the film would have worked hard to maintain the spirit of the original. Though it’s hard to know with any certainty, these images hint that Hiddleston and Evans both would have made satisfying Eric Dravens and put their own spins on the iconic character.

It is still unsure if there will be a new The Crow reboot any time soon. Gutiérrez had been championing for this film to get made for some time now but had to drop out of the project when he was approached by Paramount to direct Rings. There has been little momentum on the project in recent years, but perhaps this concept art will spark interest anew.
