If you ever stayed up way past your bedtime as a kid in order to watch Dragon Ball Z during its original uncut run on Toonami, then this opening cinematic for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will bring back some feelings of intense nostalgia.

The PlayStation YouTube channel recently uploaded the full intro to the game, and the old school references in it are powerful enough to make even the stingiest Dragon Ball fan shell out money for a pre-order. The animation isn’t set to “Rock the Dragon” like some of you may be used to, but instead, “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” which is much more internationally iconic.

The game’s opening references multiple unforgettable scenes from the anime, using incredibly smooth transitions to get from one memorable moment to the next. All of this is done with the in-game graphical style and animation, making everything look just like how you remember it, but with a shiny new coat of paint. Watch the video below to see for yourself if this cinematic is enough to take your money, that is, if previous nostalgia-infused trailers haven’t already.

For those who are unaware, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an action RPG that follows the story of Goku throughout the Z Saga, hence the title. The game will follow Goku from the Saiyan Saga all the way up to the Buu Saga. The majority of the game will be played as Goku, but other characters will also get their time to shine. For example, Piccolo, Gohan (Kid, Teen, and Adult), Vegeta, Trunks, Vegito, and Gotenks have all been confirmed to be playable as well. For the most part, these characters will have their own side stories in which they take the lead in smaller plot lines.

There are even new features and side quests taken directly from anime and manga moments that haven’t yet been seen in games. With that being said, though, how many times can Dragon Ball fans play through the same main storyline? As one of those fans myself, it seems like the answer is always “one more time” with each new game released. Never underestimate the power level of nostalgia.
