The Flash comes full circle with the original Harrison Wells being restored to the Arrowverse after so many years. If there is one thing that this long-running DC series will never lack is at least one incarnation of Harrison existing in the Arrowverse. The Flash season 7 made it seem like that it was over for Wells’ time in the show after Nash sacrificed himself to help power the Artificial Speed Force. Together with every Harrison that exists inside of him from the entire Multiverse, they were able to get Barry Allen his speed back.

However, the Artificial Speed Force wasn’t the best solution for The Flash as it caused Barry to lose his emotions even though it gave him the power to speed-think. While it seemed like the concept of a Wells being around regularly was a reality, the show pulled yet another twist. Throughout The Flash’s seven years, Tom Cavanagh has portrayed multiple different iterations of Wells in the Arrowverse, being one of the few actors to get to play a wide range of characters. The most iconic one might be his Eobard Thawne a.k.a. Reverse-Flash who was posing as Earth-1 Wells in the first season.

Eobard murdered the original Harrison to take his face and while the writers have explored that version via flashbacks, The Flash has never properly given him his due. However, with the plot twist that the original version of Harrison Wells got revived in this post-Crisis on Infinite Earths world, the Arrowverse series is opening a perfect opportunity. For as many Harrisons that this show has focused on, it’s odd how little there’s to know about the Earth-1 incarnation. But seven years in, the DC drama is finally opening the door to let the first Wells be utilized.

It doesn’t undo The Flash season 1 twist of Reverse-Flash having posed as Earth-1 Wells the entire time. Despite Crisis on Infinite Earths retooling the continuity, that storyline still happened on Earth-Prime. It would have been a catastrophe if that story got retconned because the Reverse-Flash saga benefited from Team Flash having to go through that experience. The fact that The Flash is finally doing this so much later feels in its own way rewarding because of the timing. If they had somehow brought the real Harrison to life in The Flash season 2, for example, it would have been campy. There are so many unanswered questions for The Flash’s real Harrison now that he’s alive again, besides the fact that he also has a time travel ability.

Will he make efforts to restart his life in Central City? How will Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow, who thought they worked with Harrison the entire time in The Flash season 1, tackle with getting that opportunity now? Will Harrison be everything that Barry had always hoped for as Harrison had been Barry’s role model before he became The Flash? It’s very likely that will be the final version of Harrison that the writers focus on for the remainder of the series. The Flash did the right thing by reviving Harrison Wells while also maintaining the original Reverse-Flash twist from season 1.
