Resident Evil and The Last of Us actor Troy Baker is scared of the survival horror genre and horror in general. Thanks to roles in games like The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, and Batman: Arkham Origins, Troy Baker quickly became one of the most popular and beloved voice actors in the video game industry.

In 2018, Baker and fellow voice actor (and Uncharted 4 co-star), Nolan North, started a YouTube channel, Retro Replay, which features the two acclaimed performers playing various video games while shooting the breeze and frequently engaging in foul-mouthed banter. In addition to one-off episodes featuring games old and new, the channel also hosted multi-part full playthroughs of Nolan North playing the entirety of the Uncharted games, in which the actor delivers behind-the-scenes commentary over his gameplay.

The latest episode of Retro Replay features Nolan and Troy playing both versions of Resident Evil 2, the 1998 PlayStation classic and the 2019 remake. Near the beginning of the episode, Troy Baker delivers an unexpected confession: he’s scared of horror movies and horror games, and he’s always been too scared to play the Resident Evil games.

Everyone has their phobias, from spiders and needles to zombies and vampires. Still, it’s amusing to learn that Troy Baker, the star of The Last of Us, one of the most terrifying post-apocalyptic works ever made, is scared of horror, to the point where he’s only ever experienced Resident Evil 2 by watching other people play it. Meanwhile, he has no problem with sky diving, something he’s done multiple times over the course of his life. However, he’s not a fan of roller coasters, either, though he does make an effort to explain his relationship with roller coasters and skydiving in the episode, which can be viewed above.

In addition to The Last of Us, Baker is also known for playing protagonist Jake Muller in Resident Evil 6. While certainly full of gore and harrowing sequences, RE6 was criticized for lacking the intimate horror focus of earlier entries, instead opting for massive action sequences and moments of big-budget spectacle. It’s widely considered to be the least scary entry in the series. With that in mind, maybe it would be a good starting point for Troy Baker to get into the survival horror genre, before moving on to terrifying titles like Resident Evil 7.
