The Latest Pokemon Presents Was Nearly Delayed Due To The Ukraine War

The Pokemon Company hit fans with a jam-packed Pokemon Presents over the weekend. Updates regarding Legends: Arceus, Pokemon Unite, and of course, the reveal that we will be getting even more new Pokemon games before the end of 2022. Scarlet & Violet will introduce us to a whole new region and a whole new generation of Pokemon, headed up by the three starters shown on Sunday.

That the Pokemon Presents aired shortly after Russia began its attack on Ukraine was not something that went over the heads of those at The Pokemon Company. Some people may have thought it was insensitive to press ahead with the presentation considering what happened between its announcement and the Pokemon Presents taking place. It turns out delaying the Pokemon Presents was considered, as has been relayed in a statement issued by The Pokemom Company via Nintendo Life.

“We wish to be sensitive to major world events happening at this time and those impacted. A pre-scheduled Pokemon Presents was unable to be postponed,” the statement reads. The presentation was not live, of course, and everything you saw on Sunday, including dates and update rollouts, was already in place. The Legends Arceus Daybreak update, for example, which went live later that day in conjunction with the presentation.

If you were confused as to the nature of Pokemon Presents prior to it going live, further comments from The Pokemon Company might help explain why that was. “Out of respect to our global audiences, we decided to significantly reduce the promotion of the event,” the statement reads. There was confusion on Saturday and Sunday morning as to whether the Pokemon Presents would be in Japanese only, suggesting that there would be little-to-no information for English-speaking Pokemon fans.

That was not the case, and the lack of information prior to the Pokemon Presents was simply a sign from The Pokemon Company that it was aware there are far more important things going on in the world right now. Various studios and developers have been trying to help Ukraine and its people in any way that they can, and developers of games being used to create faux footage of the conflict have urged people to stop and call out false videos as fake news.
