There are so many brilliant elements to The Mandalorian that have helped make it the perfect introduction to live-action TV for the Star Wars franchise. While not every episode was perfect, most were great, and some were phenomenal, with gorgeous execution, and some excellent new characters brought into the Galaxy.

Considering the qualitative range of characters, it is exciting to see what new characters season two will bring. As for the first, though, many have become instantly beloved and welcomed by the fans, while others have yet to prove they are tolerable enough to have around.

10 Likable – The Armorer

The Armorer is probably the most mysterious and enigmatic character of the first season, save for the mystery pair of legs that appeared in chapter six that are likely those of Cobb Vanth or Boba Fett.

Constantly imparting wisdom and insight, as well as working hard underground, the Armorer shows off her skills throughout the season, as well as her fighting ability at the end. Hopefully, she will stick around to provide more badassery for season two.

9 Can’t Stand – Ranzar Malk

One of the more divisive episodes of the first season was “Chapter 6 – The Prisoner,” which introduced a new group of characters in a standalone story. Unfortunately, most of these new characters were not pleasant, despite a decent exploratory story.

That includes Ranzar, who came across as unlikable and who was using Mando right from the start. The last awkward encounter between him and Mando, followed by his attempt to kill Din, just solidified fans’ happiness at his death that came moments later.

8 Likable – Kuiil

The first season of The Mandalorian gave way for a lot of memes, most of which came from the Child, but one big one came from the Ugnaught Kuiil and his excellent line, “I have spoken.”

A wise and peaceful Ugnaught, Kuiil’s death was the most tragic of the season. Not only did he help Mando out incredibly and care for the Child, but he also reprogrammed and reintroduced the brilliant IG-11 to the show.

7 Can’t Stand – Qin

Going back once again to “The Prisoner,” Qin the Twi’lek is another unlikable, even intolerable character from the first season.

He had very little to do at all, save for betraying Mando and getting caught not long after. His sister was far more interesting, so too was Mayfeld, and Qin’s ultimate death at the end of the episode was welcome.

6 Likable – Carasynthia Dune

The most significant standout female character of the first season of the show was Gina Carano’s Cara Dune, whose only real negative is that she is only in three episodes.

A former shock trooper in the rebellion, Cara is a seasoned and intimidating warrior who has a surprising amount of layers to her character. Hopefully, as season two progresses, she pops back up alongside Greef, and fans get a further deep-dive into the character.

5 Can’t Stand – Burg

Going back to “The Prisoner” for one final time, the muscle of the crew in that episode was not Mando, but was a Devaronian male named Burg who was physically impressive, but totally annoying from moment one.

It was clear he and Mando would get into a couple of brawls throughout the episode. But despite how good the action was, it did nothing to aid the boring mountain of a character, who adds nothing of real substance, and is by far the weakest of that group next to characters like Din and Mayfeld.

4 Likable – Din Djarin

Speaking of Din, the main protagonist and titular character for the series is nothing short of an excellent character and one who is electric and intriguing every time he comes on screen.

Learning not only about Mando’s past, but also his psyche, is fascinating throughout season one. His relationship with droids, his loyalty to the code, his status as a bounty hunter, and his fatherly feelings towards the Child all shine through in every episode. Seeing where this character goes in the likely many journeys to come is the source of much anticipation.

3 Can’t Stand – The Scout Troopers

When Moff Gideon arrives on the scene, killing the Client and demanding the Child with a cold, typically Imperial demeanor, he instantly added an extra layer of brilliance to the series.

However, two troopers fans instantly came to hate as a part of his cell were the two scout troopers who not only punched the Child and showed off their horrendous skills with a blaster, but killed Kuiil. Hateable in every way.

2 Likable – The Child

Speaking of the Child, from episode one onwards, the Child, aptly named Baby Yoda, has become a phenomenon whose cuteness has transcended the Star Wars fandom and penetrated the pop culture zeitgeist.

As one of only three known members of Yoda’s species alongside Yoda and Yaddle, everything about the Child screams interesting. His undeniable strength in the Force, his infant age of fifty, his home planet that has been promised, it is all exciting. Seeing the Child and Mando part ways will be pretty much unbearable, but the journey is one for which fans cannot wait.

1 Can’t Stand – Toro Calican

Introduced in “Chapter 5: The Gunslinger,” an episode that nearly always finds its way to the bottom of episode rankings, Toro Calican was pretty much unbearable from the moment he came on screen.

Young, brash, and cocky, with a Han Solo-attempted swagger that did not work, not only was the performance stiff and the writing average, the character was gullible, arrogant, and quite simply the worst introduced in the season.
