Two new awesome Mandalorian and Baby Yoda figures have arrived from Sideshow collectibles. Disney managed to win over Star Wars fans in a big way with the first season of The Mandalorian, and collectors have been eager to snap up everything related to the show.
When the series first premiered late last year, there was much consternation over the fact that Disney did not plan on releasing any Baby Yoda (aka The Child) merchandise to coincide with Christmas. At the time, Disney had not fully prepared themselves for the mania that Baby Yoda would end up kicking off. Series creator Jon Favreau had personally asked that no merchandise was released in advance of the series finale, as he didn’t want any spoilers to take place. In hindsight, it was the right move toward upholding the secrecy and intrigue of the series, but it reportedly did end up costing Disney a fair amount of money. This being said, fans are now free to buy an entire range of The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda merchandise. It almost seems that every other day there is a new addition to this supply and with the second series now less than a month away, demand will probably only increase.
The latest collectible arrivals for die-hard fans of The Mandalorian are a couple of very cool looking figures from Sideshow. Both figures include Baby Yoda, but for those fans who have always wanted their own life-size, mixed media figure of the character, Sideshow’s latest is an impressive offering. In addition to this, the limited-edition, quarter scale Mandalorian figure (aka Din Djarin), complete with Baby Yoda’s hovering pram, is a sound investment for anyone looking to get a quality collectible figure from The Mandalorian.
While the Baby Yoda figure stands 16.5” tall, the Din Djarin figure is actually quite a bit taller, at 20”. With the extra height on Din Djarin also comes a lot of detail, which likely explains the (USD) $630 price tag compared to Baby Yoda’s $375. Of course, this isn’t to suggest that either figure is lacking in terms of detail, as everything from the fuzz on Baby Yoda’s head to the Mandalorian’s silver armor appears to be perfectly constructed. Also, as the Din Djarin figure is limited-edition, there is a limit of two per customer. The Baby Yoda figure, however, has no such limit. It’s also not explicitly stated how long Din Djarin will be available for, but that of course will largely depend on how fast they sell to eager collectors.
It will be interesting to see to what degree that merchandise and collectible sales increase once the second season of The Mandalorian airs. It’s already been established that Disney is set to continue the series until at least a fourth season at this point. What is clear is that if Disney was able to create so many beloved characters after one season, then Star Wars collectors have much to look forward to in the months and years ahead.
