Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Mandalorian season 2, episode 6, “Chapter 14: The Tragedy.”

One of The Mandalorian’s biggest mysteries from season 1 has been answered, with season 2 confirming who found Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) on Tatooine. In The Mandalorian season 1, episode 5, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) went on a mission to capture the sharpshooter known as Fennec Shand. However, the bounty hunter Din teamed up with turned on him and shot Fennec in the stomach. She was last seen lying on Tatooine near death when a mysterious figure approached the body.

The ambiguous ending for Fennec Shand raised questions about if she survived the shot and who found her. Thanks to the familiar sound of spurs, many viewers were quick to theorize that this was Boba Fett. However, another possibility arose once it was revealed Cobb Vanth was joining The Mandalorian. Since Vanth owned Boba Fett’s armor at the time, some wondered if he was the one who found Fennec. Even though Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) appeared in The Mandalorian season 2’s first episode, no definitive answer was given.

Instead, The Mandalorian waited until season 2, episode 6 to bring back Fennec Shand and confirm who found her on Tatooine. The episode saw Din and Grogu aka Baby Yoda travel to Tython so the young but powerful Jedi could sit on a seeing stone. It wasn’t long after Baby Yoda activated the seeing stone’s powers that another ship arrived on Tython. Slave-1 landed on the planet and saw the return of Boba Fett, who had been tracking Din to reclaim his armor. But, Boba isn’t alone, as he brought Fennec Shand with him, confirming he was the mystery character at the end of The Mandalorian season 1, episode 5 after all.

This reveal confirmed two popular fan theories at the same time, that Fennec Shand did not die and Boba Fett was the mysterious figure who found her. Still, Din was quite surprised to see Fennec alive in the episode, as he thought she was dead. Fennec revealed that she is only alive because of Boba Fett and showed the new robotic implants in her torso. Boba quickly noted that he knows a thing or two about being left for dead on Tatooine, but that fate brought their paths together. This indicates Boba Fett wasn’t necessarily looking for Fennec when he found her near death. His ability to save her life, though, means Fennec is now in Boba’s debt.

Boba and Fennec tracking Din to Tython to reclaim the Fett family’s Mandalorian armor was successful in a sense. Boba Fett did get his armor back and prove to Din that it rightfully belonged to him, but they made a deal that the armor would be exchanged for Grogu’s safety. The episode ended with Moff Gideon’s Dark Troopers taking Baby Yoda to continue their experiments, leaving Boba and Fennec in Din’s debt until they rescue Baby Yoda. So, The Mandalorian is now positioned to build off the reveal of Boba finding Fennec and show more of them working together during the final two episodes of season 2.
