The next Tetris 99 event has been announced and it will take a trip to the latest iteration of the Mushroom Kingdom, as it involves a crossover with Paper Mario: The Origami King.
Tetris 99 is one of the best reasons to purchase a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, as it has one of the most thrilling competitive online modes on the system. Tetris 99 regularly holds events that allow players to win stages based on recent titles, which include songs from the game’s soundtrack. These include games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Xenoblade Chronicles – Definitive Edition.
The fifteenth Maximus Cup event for Tetris 99 will feature a crossover with Paper Mario: The Origami King, which was recently released for Nintendo Switch. The event will start on July 31 and it will end on August 3. In order to take part, you will need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. A video showing the theme has been uploaded to the official Nintendo YouTube account.
The upcoming event will feature artwork and songs from Paper Mario: The Origami King, as well as transforming all of the blocks into origami shapes. As with the previous events, it will be possible to unlock the Paper Mario: The Origami King theme by competing in tournaments while the Maximus Cup is running. The player needs to score one hundred points while the event is live and they will earn more by earning a high place in matches. Even players who suck at the game can still win the theme by playing in lots of matches during the event.
The Maximus Cup events in Tetris 99 are generally used to promote new first-party Nintendo titles, but there are currently no more of them left. The most recent one was for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and the next one will be for Paper Mario: The Origami King, and the rest of the 2020 Switch schedule is blank for exclusives, so no one knows what game the next Maximus Cup will feature.
The Tetris 99 15th MAXIMUS CUP event runs from 12 a.m. PT on July 31 to 11:59 p.m. PT on August 3.
