In a video posted by Ubisoft, an announcement has been made that the original core development team for Rainbow Six Siege have decided to move on to new development opportunities within the company, with the team now being handled by developers who have joined in recent years. Creative Director Xavier Marquis and Brand Director Alexandre Remy spoke about their decision and about the future of the game.

As the pair discuss, Rainbow Six Siege will be well maintained in the hands of Game Director Leroy Athanasoff and the new core team. There is a tone of confidence in the move, as they state, “The new core team is great. It is composed of veterans who have been working on Siege for a long time. We are under the impression that we are transmitting a legacy to these people.”

The news fuels speculation about what new project the old team will be heading to next, since they were scant on the details. Rainbow Six Quarantine is one possibility, which is due to release in late 2020 or early 2021, though they could also be working on an entirely different project.

Now seems like the perfect time to transition away to newer projects when looking at the overall progress of Siege since its launch in 2015. In the first couple of years, it is more than fair to say that there were issues relating to technical concerns and overall gameplay balance, but the current game feels like it is in the healthiest state it has even been.

The transition to a new team also points to a commitment to continue developing content for Siege, as the Senior Community Developer, Craig Robinson, states that, “Leroy and the new core team have learned so much from Alex, Xavier and the rest. Leroy has a vision for the future of Rainbow Six Siege that everyone here in the studio is very excited about.” That vision could be as simple as maintaining the course through a constant release schedule of maps and Operators, or it could point to something entirely different in terms of long-term focus. Either way, the team looks excited and passionate, which is exactly what players will want to see in the handling of their favorite game.

This is evident in the rise in popularity of the esports scene for Siege as well, with the Rainbow Six Pro League attracting more viewers than before, and excellent competitive gameplay.

Rainbow Six Siege is available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players can jump into the action now and experience the most recent addition in content, Operation Shifting Tides.
