Will the acclaimed anime series The Promised Neverland return for season 2? This show is based on the manga of the same name by Kaiu Shirai and illustrator Posuka Demizu. The Promised Neverland is set in Grace Field House, an isolated orphanage that’s home to dozens of children. It’s something of an idyllic place to live, as the kids are well looked after by their “Mom” Isabella, eat nice food and they receive a good education. The plot mostly revolves around young Emma and her two friends Norman and Ray, who discovers the horrifying truth behind their existence and set out to escape.

The Promised Neverland has received great reviews since its 2019 debut for its unique art style and visuals, in addition to its great writing, characters and dread-filled atmosphere. It’s one of the most unique anime shows of recent years and season 1 made for addictive viewing, packing a lot of twists into its twelve episodes The season ended on a major cliffhanger too, promising more adventures to come.

The Promised Neverland Season 2 Arrives In 2021

Even when an anime is popular that’s not always a guarantee of another series, which thankfully isn’t the case here. The Promised Neverland season 2 was confirmed in early 2019, but while it was originally supposed to start airing in late 2020, production on the new series was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Season 2 is currently set to debut in January 2021. Outside of the new series, the franchise’s popularity is set to expand.

A Promised Neverland Movie Is Coming

In addition to The Promised Neverland season 2, a live-action Japanese movie is also incoming. The movie is on course for a December 2020 release in Japan, and the cast is led by Minami Hamabe as Emma and Keiko Kitagawa (The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift) as Isabella. The characters have also been aged up slightly from the source material.

The Promised Neverland Is Also Receiving An Amazon Series

In 2020 it was also announced that Amazon was developing an American live-action TV show remake of The Promised Neverland, with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse co-director Rodney Rothman helming. No casting has been announced for the series just yet, and it will be very interesting to see how this series will tackle the material, especially as Western adaptations of manga or anime – think Dragonball Evolution or Ghost In The Shell – tend to have very mixed receptions.
