The Spookiest Digimon, Ranked

Digimon has introduced plenty of interesting monsters over the years, but a number of them are just downright spooky.

Digimon is perhaps best known for its large variety of monster designs, from cute and cuddly, to huge and overwhelming, encompassing everything in between. But make no mistake, ever since its creation the franchise has been no stranger to spookier, scarier, creepier, and more disturbing designs either.

Between scenes from the four Digimon Adventure series, Digimon Tamers, and its overall darker tone, and the Digimon Ghost Game anime and its more horror-themed approach, as well as plenty of other anime, manga, video games, and other media, there’s no shortage of Digital Monsters that can fill hearts to the brim with fear.

9 Clockmon: The Time Stealer

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

Clockmon looks pretty harmless at first glance, and its appearance in Digimon Tamers wouldn’t convince you otherwise, but it’s Clockmon’s appearance in Digimon Ghost Game that earns it a spot here.

In the first episode of the series, Clockmon first makes sure that its victims are alone, it then asks them what time it is because its mere presence messes up all clocks around it, and when they respond that they don’t know, Clockmon steals their time. What does this mean exactly? Well to put it simply, it steals years off of its victim’s life to the point that they become so withered and old that they have to be hospitalized.

Luckily, once Clockmon is defeated, its victims return to their original state. Although that doesn’t undo the trauma of having years of your life stolen. Still, at least he’s gone now – as far as we know.

8 Cherubimon (Evil): The Spookiest Corrupted Celestial Digimon

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

Cherubimon is the spookiest member of the Celestial Trio appearance-wise, due to his glowing yellow eyes, torn ears, and strange arm veins, and was also the first of the three to get a major role as the mega form of antagonist Kokomon in the last act of Digimon: The Movie. He even gets a spooky entrance.

Cherubimons deep voice and evil laughter are also unsettling, although he rarely speaks, particularly when he toys with his victims. A different Cherubimon was also a main antagonist in Digimon Frontier, but this appearance lacks the spookiness of the original, despite having the same voice.

7 Icedevimon: Devimon’s Cold-Hearted Murderous Cousin

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

What’s worse than the original fallen angel Digimon? One that’s quite literally a Digimon serial killer. Sure, Devimon manipulates other Digimon and destroys them once they’ve lost their usefulness, but those defeated Digimon would at least be reborn.

In both of his anime appearances, Icedevimon doesn’t just murder his victims, he absorbs their data to gain strength, which ensures their permanent elimination. Although perhaps to lighten the mood somewhat, he sounds like Cristopher Walken in the English Dub.

6 Bakemon: A Toothy Human-Eating Ghost

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

Considered by some to be an amazing Digimon design, Bakemon looks like a normal depiction of a generic ghost with one exception: its sharp tooth-filled mouth. What are these teeth for? Eating humans of course!

In Digimon Adventure, Digidestined Sora and Joe encounter what they think is a group of humans celebrating the Bakemon Holiday. Once the humans are revealed to be Bakemon themselves, it turns they want to EAT Sora and Joe! Luckily, Sora and Joe’s Digimon partners come to save the day.

Bakemon has appeared in other Digimon anime series, but its first appearance is both its most memorable and the only one where it has a villain of the week role.

5 Madleomon: A Ferocious Werelion

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

Leomon was already kind of freaky depending on who you ask, but its corrupted form, Madleomon, is something else entirely. Thankfully, Madleomon keeps its pants but is more horror-themed, with darker colors and an angrier demeanor.

Known as the Zombie Zinger Digimon, Madleomon also has poison claws that can make anything rot. A berserker with reduced intelligence and increased strength, Madleomon stops at nothing to destroy its targets, going straight through anything that gets in its way.

If you think that’s bad, Madleomons Armed form or “Weapon-frenzy Mode” is even worse. Now with a metallic left hand and forearm, and a chainsaw for a right hand, Armed Madleomon would feel right at home in a survival horror game. It identifies anything it sees as an enemy to be attacked due to the constant anger and pain it feels.

4 Keramon: The Creepiest Rookie

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

While there are plenty of insectoid and arachnid Digimon to choose from, including this entry’s digivolutions, Keramon is the creepiest. Receiving a brief but memorable role in the second act of Digimon: The Movie before Digivolving straight into his ultimate and then mega forms, Keramon slurps up data like it’s nobody’s business.

It’s a relief he changed forms so quickly, because, between his soulless unmoving eyes, hand puppet-like mouth, flimsy arms and human-like hands, dangling body, unsettling voice, and the way he moves around, it’s prime nightmare fuel. Enhancing the creepiness factor further, the Japanese name for Keramons Bug Blaster attack is Crazy Giggle, where he attacks while laughing.

3 Skullgreymon: The First Dark Digivolution

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

In its original lore, Skullgreymon is what happens when a Greymon relies more on fighting than anything else, to the point that its flesh completely rots and its intelligence disappears, making it a massive threat to other Digimon.

Skullgreymon may not be the spookiest Digimon, but the context of seeing a creature you’ve bonded with turn into a horrible and reckless monster because of your own faults is what makes him truly terrifying, no matter how brief his appearance is.

2 Venomyotismon: The Original Mega-level Digimon Satan

The Spookiest Digimon Ranked

Myotismon and his henchmen could take up most of this list, but the first mega form of the vampire Digimon himself is a cut above the rest. While some would argue that Devimon is the original Digimon Satan, since Venomyotismon was the first Mega level Digimon in Devimon’s original digivolution line they are still somewhat related. Venomyotismon, however, has a cooler prophecy connected to him that goes like this “The sky will be darkened by the wings of many bats. The fallen people will invoke the name of the undead Digimon king and when the clock strikes the hour of the beast, the undead king will reveal himself in his true form as the beast.”

While at first glance Venomyotismon looks typical for a Demon Beast Digimon, his true form is what’s truly disturbing, which is a face hidden in his crotch area. Not only that, but throughout the Digimon Adventure series he just won’t stay dead. He would be number one, but his appearance in Digimon Xros Wars literally knocks him down a peg. In said appearance, Digimon Data Squad protagonist Marcus Damon punches a Venomyotismon so hard it tumbles and knocks over the other Venomyotismon standing behind it like a stack of dominoes, despite its status as one of the heaviest Digimon. Similar to Devimon, Venomyotismon is once again defeated with the help of Angel Digimon. Not today, Satan.

1 Rare Raremon: The Continuously Decaying Digimon

Raremon was already disturbing and gross enough as it is, essentially being a pile of living decay with asymmetrical eyes, sharp teeth, and exposed bones. Rareraremon, its new digivolution in the Digimon Adventure reboot anime takes it a step further, adding more eyes and mouths and looking more like a demon from Shin Megami Tensei than a digital monster. Its stench has evolved too, so much so that most mega-level Digimon have a hard time being near it.

If that wasn’t bad enough, its toxic gas is so deadly that it immediately kills anything that inhales it and it completely dissolves its victims after swallowing them whole with its giant primary mouth. RareRaremon is defeated pretty easily in its anime debut, but that doesn’t change the extremely disturbing nature of how it looks, smells, or functions.
