The fourteenth episode of TheGamer Podcast is live now, featuring discussions on Super Smash Bros., Prince of Persia, and an interview with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy cinematics director, Darryl Purdy.

TheGamer Podcast is hosted by Eric Switzer, who is joined this week by guests George Foster, Meg Pelliccio and Jade King. You can listen to the podcast through Podbean, Apple Podcast, Spotify, and several other podcast apps. You can check out last week’s episode here, where we chat to Jordan Thomas, lead writer of The Blackout Club.

This week’s headline news includes Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics removing XP boosters from Marvel’s Avengers, following fan outcry over broken promises. The team had initially promised to never add pay to win mechanics, and many saw XP boosters as just that, since it made progression far easier if you were willing to fork over some cash. Eric, George and Meg comb through the official apology, not exactly convinced that it’s genuine.

As well as that, we have a chat about the future of Smash Bros., and how weird it is that we’re always worrying about Sakurai’s wellbeing. And of course, there’s the mandatory chat about the supposed Warner Bros. Smash clone, Metaversus, which seems to get more and more real by the day.

After that, Jade joins us to discuss Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. With Eric, Jade, George and Meg all having put a good amount of hours into it, they chat about how it’s sitting with them a week on. While, on the whole, they’re all loving it, it definitely isn’t without its problems. Eric and Jade even go as far as to label it “cringe” in places. No one can deny that it’s a whole bunch of fun, though.

We stay with Guardians for the final stretch of the podcast, bringing on cinematics director Darryl Purdy. He tells us about how he broke into the industry, and how he brought Guardians to life through its cutscenes.

Finally, we wrap up with a spoiler-filled chat about the game with Eric and George. While reviews are positive across the board, how does the game feel once you’re done with the story?
