UK retailer Game has told customers who have preordered a PS5 to stand by as Sony will be making a big announcement this week.
Sony and Microsoft have been slowly revealing details about their respective next-gen consoles throughout 2020. However, both companies have been reluctant to reveal one of the most important details of all, the price. That all changed today as Xbox not only confirmed it will be releasing a smaller version of the Series X – the Series S – but also confirmed the less powerful version of its next-gen offering will cost $299.
As for the PS5 and what Sony has in store, the Xbox rival is yet to react to the big Series S news. However, Game, a retailer in the UK, may have let the cat out of the bag in regard to when gamers can expect a response. The Twitter account for its Guildford branch has warned those who have preordered a PS5 to be prepared as there is a big announcement coming tomorrow.
If this is a reaction to the announcement from Xbox this morning, it will likely be in regard to price rather than the reveal of a whole new model. Sony decided to show its hand right off the bat with that one. It revealed its own alternative console during an event earlier this year. The disc drive-less PS5 Digital Edition.
However, there is a chance that PlayStation has three PS5s ready to go at launch. There have been rumors that a PS5 Pro could be in the works. However, if PlayStation’s history is anything to go by, the smaller and cheaper version of the PS5 won’t arrive until midway through the next generation. Chances are this week’s announcement, if there is one, will be in regard to price.
It seems as if this could be the most important week to date on the road to the next generation of console. Even though Xbox is yet to reveal the price of the Series X, leaks and educated guesses based on the price of the Series S have people assuming it will be $499. Despite the lack of an official reveal, Sony might now be comfortable revealing the PS5 will cost the same, or maybe even a little less.
