Destiny 2 has a new item courtesy of the Shadowkeep expansion, but you need to be careful before you claim it.

Shadowkeep has arrived, and with it came a whole bunch of new content, new rewards, and new bugs. The biggest issue was the fact that the servers couldn’t keep up with the influx of new players after the game released on Steam at the same time as Shadowkeep dropped. This caused the servers to be down for several hours as Bungie performed “emergency maintenance” on them.

But a day later and things have roughly turned back to normal, albeit with the regular assortment of bugs that comes with any new content drop. One of them is definitely something you should know about though.

It has to do with the new Artifact item type, specifically the Gate Lord’s Eye. You get it as part of Destiny 2’s new battle pass system after achieving tier 7. It’s a neat little toy that will increase your power level as you acquire XP throughout the season, so naturally everyone wants to grab it as soon as possible.

However, you shouldn’t. Or at least, you shouldn’t until your absolutely sure you’re not partaking in an equipment-locked activity (such as a Nightfall). If you are, then there’s a bug that might make it appear as though the Gate Lord’s Eye has disappeared even after you’ve claimed it.

Obviously, this is very bad. Nobody wants to be denied their shiny new toy. Thankfully, Bungie has already issued a temporary workaround while they go about investigating a more permanent fix.

It involves the Destiny 2 Companion App. You’ll need to login on the app, go to your character’s inventory, then go to the “General” tab, and then scroll down to where you see the Seasonal Artifact section. Then you should be able to equip the Gate Lord’s Eye and it’ll appear in your in-game inventory.

Things are still a bit shaky as Bungie deals with the double whammy of a bunch of new players and new content bugs, but they’re plugging away as always. Just remember to not claim your artifact from the Seasonal tab until you’re outside of all activities and you should be good.
